Fishy love

Thanks, they're darling

I had a horrible experience just a few hours ago though. The mother has been allowing the others to come a bit closer and closer. Her and dad square off now and then, but nothing major. Anyway, I give them some bbs (and feed the other fish some food on the other end) and I watch as the fry sort of spread out a bit more than usual. A couple were even in front of the rock, while mom and the rest were in back. I figure she's letting them wander off a bit, they are getting bigger and all. Personally I'd of waited another week, but ok,whatever. They're her kids.
All of a sudden dad edges up to the one's out front and gulp swallows a fry!!! There is no emoticon to express my utter horror ...combine all of these...
:-( :grr:   :-( :sly:
No, that's still not close. Grrr, they're so big,but not big enough :-(
Of course mom was on him like crazy, but still :X My eyes, my eyes!!!!

i was wondering about that when you said that she wasn't letting him help... when my kribs started fighting over the fry, it was b/c momma krib was eating them. :( that's a real shame; i hope it all works out for you.

Can you put a tank divider in there or something? Some plexi glass or something that goes almost all the way up to the top of the water so there is still movement, but the fish cant go from one side to the other?

I thought about taking dad out, but I decided against it. They'll just have to work it out on their own, which they're doing. There's hardly any aggression.

I think the fry are finally big enough to not be eaten. Even that one I saw him swallow choked him up a bit going down. I think he's over it. It's just bugging him that she's not down there with him, typical man  That tank is so well fed, it's not like he's hungry.

I missed a perfect photo op just a few minutes ago when I gave them some bbs for breakfast. The others were really close - just watching pathetically like beggers at an invisible window

She has the fry everywhere now  I'll guesstimate that there are still over 50 so she obviously hasn't lost many .She let's the mollies come close with no problems, I saw them feeding with the babes yesterday.
I've been feeding them 6+ times a day to grow them fast, and it seems to be working. They even eat the frozen bloodworms and brine that I feed to mom. They look great

This has been a fun experience. They're so different than betta fry  They grow much faster.

Thanks a lot :)

I'm happy to say that mom and dad have reunited  Both are happily raising the fry together. Although I think the males intentions were for something else in the beginning of the make up  But I could tell that she was pushing the thought of why does he want more if he doesn't even want these. So, stepping into the role of dad at three weeks he has been a bit awkward but he's figuring it out

The other day, trying to woo the female and showing what a good papa he could be if she gives him a chance...

The molly fry are cute too. I find them hanging out with the krib kids. They grew fast but they come out as white blurs when I try to take a pic of them :dunno:

Awesome wuv
Great pics and Congrats!

Thanks!
It's for the best. I think they both realized they can have the whole tank for the fry if they work as a team. :p

Wow the fry have really grown quick!! :hyper: They look really cute!!

I'm glad mom and dad finally reunited...I think everything worked out because of the length of your tank. They could both get away from eachother and not see eachother well from each end of the tank. My 30 gallon is only 2 foot so mine could always see eachother and not really escape anywhere.

I'd love to try kribs again someday

I agree about the tank length, that's exactly why it all worked out in the end. She just wanted some privacy and a place to keep them to herself for a few weeks.
They're way cuter in person, they're kinda blobby looking in pics  I can't wait until they lose those spots.

Thanks so much for this post.....they're adorable and it sounds like things are working out perfectly.
The whole family look gorgeous and I can't wait to see more pictures as they grow up!

Fantastic pics!

Those fry are getting nice and big now

Thanks you guys
I counted last night for the first time and I came up with 42 right out in the open. Pretty good for a couple of kids and their first spawn. Mom and Dad aren't even a year old themselves. I may wind up with a really good pair of parents here B) They say: "Give us another year or two, baby :hey: "

Well, they're officially a month old this past weekend

They're getting krib stripes ,just adorable

Gathering for breakfast this morning
