Hello,

I would really appreciate if anyone could take a look at my cycling log and let me know if its going ok or failing? :)

Tank 80x35x37.5, 105 Litres,

Day 1 : Tank setup with nutrafin cycle added
Day 2 : Found forum and planned to do a 'real fishless cycle'
Day 3 : Tested PH level 7.5, 5.8ml of amonium added to raise it to 5ppm (not tested to check the amonium level)
Day 4 : Waiting for test kits to arrive - Tested PH level 8.0
Day 5 : Waiting for test kits to arrive - Tested Ph level 8.0
Day 6 : Tested Ammonia 4.00ppm, Tested Nitrite 0ppm

Is this going to plan? When can I expect to see the amomonia drop to 1ppm and at this point do I add aother 5.8ml of amomonia to raise it back to 5ppm and hopefully it will be broken down faster the second time round?

Any help on this matter would be very nice.

Thanks for your time.

Agree with Tom, anywhere to a few days to a couple of weeks. Patience is one of the main difficulties we see here in the beginners section! You won't be alone. Nearly everyone has experienced how hard it is to get used to all the places patience is needed in good fishkeeping.

~~waterdrop~~

Expect to see about 2 weeks for a drop in ammonia but don't get too excited if it takes another week.

Thank you everyone, that has put my mind at rest. I will carry on testing daily and record whats going on.

THANKS THIS FORUM IS AWESOME!

I have half a bottle left of the Nutrafin Cycle. Should I throw in the tank anyway, seen as though I got it free with tank?

Thanks for your time :)

Can I assume that Nutrafin cycle does not work lol?

In the opinion of the vast majority here, the "bacteria in a bottle", is a waste of time.

Tom

The flaw in that statement is that the vast majority of the "vast majority" whose opinions it is that these products are a waste of time have never used them. Make of that what you will!

Definitely use it. Even if it's not all it's cracked up to be it still contains nutrients which will benefit the bacteria you're trying to grow.

You are doing things right cerberus. The bacteria in a bottle actually worked when a product called Nitrospira was available. Unfortunately the product required constant refrigeration until it was used and its results were a bit spotty. The product has not been available for a few years now and that means that anything you find in a bottle now is highly suspect. If you believe that something that you have found will work, verify it with testing when adding ammonia to your setting. If it works, please let us know. I would love to find something like Nitrospira that worked again, but have seen no evidence of such a product in many years. If you want to add your Cycle go ahead. I have seen no adverse reactions when I tried to use it in the past, but I also saw no benefit using it. Only lots of water changes seemed to help my fish through their cycling process at that time.
