Yeah, it's still early for me to celebrate as I'm still at the 2ppm dosing and haven't seen a 12 hour drop for nitrites yet but hopefully not too long...

You seem to be nearing the end very soon!!

Are you still on a reduced dosage ?

I`ve got a colony of a bac the size of Switzerland, but the n bac must all be hung over I`m getting fed up of visitors admiring the tank and asking where the fish are, I`ve even considered getting some of those plastic fish you see in the column lamps

Yeah, I'm still only dosing 2ppm. I don't want to increase the dose until I see my first 12 hour 0ppm nitrites. If your N-bac colony is the size of Switzerland, I think mine are the size of the Holy See.

Haha, same here about visitors - having to explain fishless cycling each time is not easy! I like your idea of plastic fish. Maybe I should get some!


EDIT: just realise I mis-read anon02's comments but never mind - the fact is A-Bacs are doing well but N-Bacs are pathetic

N bacs are always pathetic Frida. Don't despair, they will one day remove nitrites the way that you need. meanwhile, don't forget that they must do far more work to keep up with the nitrogen going into your tank than the A bacs do, about 2.7 times as much work.
