I just realized how I lost a ton of money because of fishkeeping...I had a jiob, and I'd save up about $300.
No, I don't have a job, andf I have $20 left to finish my nano, which only has 8 lbs of LR in it so far...
I guess I'm on hold till' christmas :X

No i don't work make my husband buy everything, lol

I try to use as little money as possible. I just have the necessary stuff for the fish to keep them healthy and that's about it. All I spend money on is more fish or plants, but I don't buy them often. I try to save up money, and when I buy plants, I concentrate on that one species. Then after it has been growing well, I get more plants. With fish, after they get settled and maybe a month later, I buy more fish.

i get stuff for christmas and my birthday and if its absolutely necessaqry or else i have to do chores and stuff to get stuff

yes i have a job but i still find fishkeeping finacialy challanging as my house requires quite a lot of upkeep and im preparing for my baby due in august.

Oooo congrats tetrafan. Got a way to go yet tho and the early part of summer nearly at full term. Ick. Not fun.
Financially yes, I spend a fortune on my fish. But then I have alot of them and always feel I need to give the best I possibly can, even if that means putting off getting my car repaired for 2 months. :*) Yeah I really did that. Only got fixed today. Unsuprisingly partly because the place I'm getting my newbies from is some 2-300 miles away and it's too cold to have them sent right now. Guess where I'm going Saturday.
Hugs,
P.

Not at the moment- it would be if I had the space to get the stuff I want!

Congrats, Tetrafan! Best part of your life starting. And you've got the chance to train up another little fishkeeper in the best traditions of this forum!

Well im kinda new to the hobby of keeping fish (had fish for 6 monthes). I found a 29 gallon aquarium on the side of the road, picked it up because my friends all had one. Went and bought a filter, air bubbler, gravel, and rocks and put fish in the same day. They all got ick and died, so I waited to cycle my tank, and have made loads more mistakes since then. Really ive spent like $400-$500 on making mistakes throught out my fish career, but what can i say, you learn by mistakes.

:/ But mistakes are a costly business when they involve animals lives...

Everything I have so far for this tank I have recently setup is worth approximately £200, so certainly fishkeeping isnt cheap! The two fish I have in there currently cost me £3 in total :) but they're worth every penny to treat them right ;)

I have the advantage of actually working in my LFS but it's a bit painful when your wages are going straight back into the till
