Fishkeeping Difficulties

just an update... my old platy died this morning. In a way it's a good thing because it looked in such rough shape, showing no signs of getting better... I'm so beat up about it :(

its horrible losing fish, i wish you all the best!

i think everyone has lost fish for one reason or another. I have been keeping fish just over a year and im still learning and lost a few fish from various things. Just got to get on and learn so it doesnt happen the same way again :)

Up the water changes to 50% every week. Stop using salt, keep the temp between 76-79F, just use a de-chlorinator, don't add anything else. Also invest in a liquid test kit and only buy fish from a reputable supplier. I like Walmart and all but for anything "alive", no comment. Also make sure you are doing a good gravel vac and rinsing out filter media(with tank water) each week. If you do all of that, there is no reason why you should't be successful. Live plants are good too.

Good luck!

For the most part I have been getting my fish from a Pet Smart. Seems to be more of a luck game with them too as far as getting healty, hardy fish. Ill check into other options too.

just a little update if there is anyone still checking in.

The fish that are left are doing well. I did probably a 75% water change two days ago and slowly bringing the temp back down a bit. My orange platy that i haven't seen in days finally came out and is swimming around nicely! It's an awesome feeling... hopefully it continues. :)

Oh, that's great news! I love when one comes back from the brink of death. Good job!
