Hi I noticed one of my fish had slight fin rot on her tail the other day. I've added treatment to the water and everything. This was about 24 hours ago now. I'm just wondering how long I need to wait before putting the carbon sponge back in the filter and doing my water changes? The LFS didn't mention it and I forgot to ask since I was in a bit of a hurry to get home and put the treatment in the water.
Any advice anyone? Thanks a lot

What kind of meds was it, exactly?  Usually, the med bottle/packaging has instructions on dosing info and treatment duration.  Carbon can be placed back into the tank when treatment is over.

I'm not sure because it wasn't of the shelf. The owner of the shop gave me some of his own treatment that's used for finrot and bacteria etc. I guess I'll have to phone the store tomorrow when it opens and ask him.

If your carbon filter is more than a few weeks old, it will be useless at removing the medication.

You don't need a carbon filter for everyday use, assuming that your dechlorinator also removes heavy metals - most do, but not all, so have a read of the bottle to be sure.
