Fish travel

Should we support the tree frog heresy of @WhistlingBadger ?
Yeah, why not. I say dream for it.

I live in a beautiful place, and feel quite lucky for it. But travel has taught me there are equally if not more beautiful places, and there are people living lives I would love to be able to try out.

I'm not really excited if I think of time travel. Time to travel though - that I would love to have more of.

My fascination with fish life has sent me to places that are unexpected. Beaches are nice, but the forests behind them? Mind boggling.

Almost all of us have fish travel right in our own backyards . Get yourself a Peterson Guide to North American Native Fishes and go see what you can find .
Yeah, I've done that. Almost all of the fish around here are too big and active for normal aquariums, and need very cold water to thrive. Chillers are cost-prohibitive.

I did a lot of fishing for local species when it was still legal where I lived. I was at the border of two slightly different faunas, on a city island with one set south and another on the north shore. Baitfish were banned to avoid transfer (300 years late) and aquarium keeping was included.

Beaver dams have very cool, often blackwater fish, but small ones are 5-6 inches. I also caught some less than colourful but cool Etheostoma darters. But as @WhistlingBadger pointed out, we can't give them the winter part of their life cycle, and once they are in our tanks, they are in contact with tropical fish pathogens, so they can't be released back. They don't do well.

It's legal where I live now and there are 2 local killies, but I haven't given in to temptation and gotten any. Winter...if you you're going to do something, do it right. If you can't, don't.

So the tropics beckon.

I'm going to India & South Asia for loaches, rasboras & gobies. SA for catfish & some dwarf cichlids. Maybe NA for pretty darters but just to see them not, to bring home & keep.

Does this travel include help maintaining all my new acquisitions?

While you are in the water fishing, it's almost guaranteed that an intelligent, funny and stunning woman or man will see you, recognize how attractive fishkeepers are and ask to be your true love and aquarium maintenance partner. If you have a current partner, he/she will consider this a wonderful idea as it's fish related and and all things fish related are cool.

Dream of a person like that 🥺

I would want to visit Australia to get and see the Spotted blue eyed rainbow fish - Pseudomugil gertrudae
They are also found in Papua New Guinea
