Fish tank state

Your elephant noses need a dimly lit, heavily planted, good quality water, fish tank. This is to resemble there natural habitat. These fish are shy and need good care.

And yes, i think your tank is over stocked too (its only a 20 gallon). The Kuhli and Clown loaches need to be in groups, along with the danios. And the kissing gourami will grow large.

I dont recon you will need to remove the common plecs now, maybe in the future as they grow larger. I would definately get rid of the Kissing gourami now better than latter.

Research is what you need i fear.

When designing fish tanks, i believe natural is beautiful, but whether or not u agree is the question. Everyone has different tastes, have a look around, go to different fish shops, and see for yourself. The best way in my opinion is too buy books. These demonstrate examples and show pics at the same time.

i try to get information from fish places but they fob me off just to get a sale :(
i have books but information i want isnt there can you recommend books please also i was thinking about a another tank but its only small do you think my kissing gouramis will be alrite on there own thanks matt

The best books you can buy are the Baensch Atlases, volumes one and two will be sufficient for all but the most avid (addicted) fish keeper.

The advise you have been given so far is good, i would recomend you take it.

Here is a picture of one of my tanks to give you some possible ideas

I LIKE WHAT I SEE ITS JUST THAT WHAT I WANT I CANT GET :( I WANT A TANK WHAT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL AND IS A PERFECT HOME FOR MY FISH :)

ITS SO DEPRESSING BECAUSE EVERY BODY HAS A BEAUTIFUL TANK HERE BUT YESS MY TANK IS NICE BUT ITS NOT THE BEST IT CAN BE LIKE YOURS :-(

It takes time, sometimes years to get a tank looking as good as what you see here. There are always great ideas but the best part about fish keeping is coming up with your own, unique set up.

Wow.. calm down. And less caps, please. No need to shout.

It takes work to get a tank to look its best. I've been adding to mine for a month now, and I'm still not satisfied. You've just got to be patient..

If you want a tank that's a perfect home for your fish, research the fish that you want and then see what's compatible in your tank. That's the best way to do it.

Hi Matt Doncaster :)

One of the best things about fishkeeping is that if your fish are healthy and your tank is clean, the rest it up to you. There is no right and no wrong way for it to look.

There is a big tank at one of my lfs that has been established for many years, and whenever I see it I just stand there and stare at it in amazement. It is that beautiful. It's heavily planted with many, many different kinds of plants, and they must be trimmed regularly to keep everything just right. It is my idea if a perfect tank.

On the other hand, I've seen people's tanks that had multicolor gravel, ceramic "no fishing" signs, and spinning wheels run by airstones. Even with just a handful of guppies swimming around, they brought joy to their owners. These tanks are no less perfect, IMHO.

After all, they say that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." :D

i dont think that her means anything with the caps i just think that like us all we see some tanks and think wow i like the look of that and y doesnt mine look that good or why dont my plants look that good then after time you realise that if you want somethink to look good it will take time and many diffrent tank set ups for you to think YES now i have MY perfect tank

so matt just take in all the beauty that the tanks on show have use bits of some bits of others and bits of your own ideas and i promise you will have your PERFECT tank

keep on learning

yours

Hi Matt. You'll always see tanks that seem like the perfect tanks, no matter how nice yours is. Its human nature to want what someone else has. Your tank might be viewed by someone else as the perfect tank. My advise is to make changes gradually - having a tank is almost always a work-in-process. Maybe if you make a small change here and there you'll realize your tank is really a nice tank after all.

You might want to post a picture of it in a new thread in the members aquarium and fish pictures forum. That way we can see what you're working with and offer some suggestions.

Don't get down on yourself. As long as your aquarium is well-maintained it is a nice aquarium. :D

Hi Matt Doncaster :)

Over and above the matter of aesthetics, I'm afraid you will have to do something about your selection of fish. Unfortunately, some of them are not suitable to a happy community tank and must be rehoused elsewhere.

A good place to start evaluating what you have is in the Catfish section. You can learn a bit about your plecos, and perhaps we can help you identify the one you can't name. It might be a cute and friendly little fish, but it could also turn out to be a problem. :D
