Well if you want to make the tank more suitable for the fish, you're going to have to get rid of some and make sure you research the fish you buy in future. Out of curiosity, how long have you had the elephantnoses and how big are your plecs, clown loach and catfish at the moment? Khulie and clown loaches like to be in groups of a minnimum of 3 (but don't get any more right now). Many of the other fish are shoaling fish that need groups of 5-6 at least (the barbs and zebra danios). Some of your fish are going to get to at least 12", the plec (assuming it's a common) can get to 18". Elephantnoses give off electrical impulses and, though they do like to be in groups, cause problems for each other if they are in a small volume. They are also very sensitive to water quality and, once your other fish start getting bigger and messier, they will suffer. Oh and they get to around 9" and kissing gouramies get to 8" so these are pretty big fish too.

thanks very much for the advice the elephant noses have been put in yesterday they seem to be adapting well my plecs are common and are about 3 inches long but what would you advise of fish to get rid off and possibly could i have a picture of your tank no disrespect just curious on how to improve the tank and the lifestyle many thanks matt
:D

Fish to get rid of would be the common plecs and the clown loaches - I know they are lovely fish but sadly they will grow too big for your tank. :( I'm not sure about the elephant noses either.

a good way to make your tank a nicer environment for your fish is to add live plants. they remove waste from the water and add oxygen. some good plants for a beginner are hygrophila, anubias, java fern, cryptocoryne, vallisneria, and amazon sword. If you need to know more about plants you could have a look in the plant forum and you'll find lots of pictures of nice tanks in the "members' aquarium and fish pictures" forum.

I was looking at getting elephant noses too, and I found out that they are (a) not suitable for a community tank such as yours, and (B) need 20g per fish. If you'd like to know more, go to the oddballs forum and check the pinned posts by CFC, there is a section in there about them.

Take them back to the shop.
