Hi all i live in Connecticut by new haven and am looking for a good fish store with some variety. I've been to petcos and stuff but am looking for something that may stock some stuff that is out of the ordinary. I'm willing to drive a little ways if its worth it. Thanks...

Someone just posted this same question. I'm form CT Born and raised. But I have not lived there in 10 years so I'm sorry I can't help. The yellow pages can be helpful and look for that other CT post.

Staff Knowledge and friendliness: 3-6 -- they are primarily a reptile store, it sometimes seems as if aquaria is only out of necessity. I'd give them all 9's or 10's if we were talking reptiles.

If you're looking for uncommon fish, the best place to find them is often at a fish club auction. There is one coming up in Connecticut this month. If it's within driving distance, it would be a great way to spend the day, meet other fishkeepers, and buy some great fish at reasonable prices.

i checked out the other post snowflake, made a reply on that one. the peron who posted the topic was just looking for a lfs. i'm on the hunt for one wiht some exotic breeds. thanks for the help though.

snowflake, thanks for the tip on the one in wallingford/meridan.
i've been to 2 petcos in CT already and both stock the same thing and slither 'n swim is right down the street from my apartment so i'm there once a week to see if anything new has come in, lol.
i'll have to check out all pets this weekend perhaps, let u know if they have anything good.

You I have given up on asking my LF to order fish for me. I now search aquabid. Also Thatpetplace.com They have a really good selection of fish with good prices Only thing is shipping is not cheap. I'm going to be ordering some fish and plants from them in a few weeks. I will let you know how it goes.

please do... shipping cost is the least of my worries, id be more worried about what to do if i'm not home when the shipment comes. How will the fish survive until i can get to them!!?? it be nice to get some cool plants too. i got those stupid plastic ones right now and it just doesn't look right. i'm trying to go for a natural looking tank and it's hard to pull that off with plastic plants

That's why I'm making sure I know what day they are coming and making sure I have the day off for them.

well i have platys, swordtails and corys right now. i'm looking for anything cool that would go good with them. don't want anything that would need water params at an extreme opposite of the fish i already have. i'd have to research and then decide.

I know I have plastic plants in my 36 gal tank with a fake log that is great for fish to hide in but its coming out. I'm going to collect rocks tomorrow to make rock caves instead. Then I'm going to add a few Anubias to my java moss and keep my tall fake plants mix live with fake.

yea i'm thinkin about doin something along the same lines. i'm gonna start off with some mosses and then add in some live plants slowly but surely... i have some real dogwood pieces in my tank right now and wanna get some moss and algae growing on it. i think it would look really cool, and once the real plants are in it will look absoluty awesome. once u get ur plants make sure u upload some pics for me to check out.

u got a co2 setup already for ur tank snowflake? i wasreading some of the info in the planted tanks section and it looks like if u want to have a succesful planted tank, ur gonna have to add a co2 system of some sort. just another fixture u gotta hook up to ur tank. the things we do for our fish, lol.

No if you pick your plants right you don't need CO2. It has more to do with the amount of light you have. If you chose low light plants and only have 1 WPG - 2 WPG you don't need CO2. So that's what I am doing picking low light plants. My tank is agansit the rules and I have it where it gets direct sun at the end of the day and that helps my plants too. I don't have an algae problem (knock on wood).

So set up for low light hardy plants and no CO2 needed. I have some plants already they are looking kind of sad but are growing and doing well. My java fern is sprouting little daughter plants my other plants are doing awesome too. I will post some photos once they grow in a bit and I have them where I want them. They are just kind of in there at the moment I need to move them around a bit.

i think i might hold off on the whole planted tank thing for a little while. it seems like alot more work than what i had origionally thought.
