Hi

im just gettin to the end of my fishless cycle and am planning to stock within the next 2 weeks

Heres my stock wish list. Please let me know if u see a problem.

8-10 Danios
4 Angel fish
4 Gouarmi
8 Corys
10 Fancy Guppis (not 100% sure on these yet)
And 1 Male Betta

What do u think and do u have any other suggestions??
Aiming for a peaceful community

Thanx for ur feedback

Paul

Oh by the way its a 260L tank

thanx again

Think Wills is on the case, he really helped me with my selection, but im pretty sure angelfish and gourami mightnt be too good, angels can be quite aggresive and gourami the opposite....don't quote me though....i am by no means an expert!!!

8-10 Danios - these will be fine but the more the better
4 Angel fish - should be fine but can be territorial when breeding
4 Gouarmi - depends on which ones you want
8 Corys - should be fine in a community set up
10 Fancy Guppis (not 100% sure on these yet) - if they start to breed then your tank could become to populated.
And 1 Male Betta - i would forget about the betta if you want gouramis, guppys and angel fish

agreed i wouldnt have a betta and i would try stock honey gourami as they are so peaceful and wont both with your angelfish and hopefully vice versa :)

Great thanx for the advice.
So the male Betta is out of the question? Thats a shame they are great lookin fish.
I thought it would b ok as iv read people have had success with them in a community tank.

What species of Gouami would u suggest? I was thinkin kissing Gourami. I want a species that are pretty active!
If i do choose to go with Fancy Guppys i was thinkin all male selection to prevent breeding, what do u think?

Can u suggest any other playful active fish? And what would b the load limit for a 260L tank.

Your advice is much apprichated!

ooops dunno what iv done here

Hi
you can have a betta in a community tank if you stock around them carefully i.e. not bright long fins on any fish, and no nippy fish.
Kissing gouramis grow to big, i would go for dwarfs but im not a gourami expert, there might be better ones out there.
I don't think 10 male guppies are a good idea i think the would start to fight a little.

What would b a good alternative for Guppys in your opinion?

Honey Gourami are very nice in a group

If your going for cories (which i highly recommend great little fish) get one group of 8 they will be more active and look better this way :good:

An all male group of Gup's will be fine especially with 10 to spread the agression, my only worry would be the Angels after there fins

If your really keen on a Betta then i'd suggest get a smaller tank (5-10Gal) for a male :)

Thanx for the input

Iv actually kept Angels and Guppies together in my previous 60L tank and they got on fine!
I only had 5 Guppies (all Male) and they where fine, no aggression. They where really playful and pretty funny to watch which is why im thinkin bout stocking them again.

Il do some research into Honey Gouamis now as ur not the first to suggest these so maybe they are the way forward

Hi looks like your getting quite a lot of help but just a few things Id like to throw out there. The main thing being is a lot of your fish choices are quite iffy if they will work sometimes they do and sometimes they wont. Now having one of these kind of mixes is generally okay and easy to deal with but when you have a few fish that can go wrong mixed together it can cause serious headaches latter on.

The mixes I am talking about are - Guppies + Angels + Gourami. Angels and Gouramis sometimes work sometimes dont depends on the fish, Angels and Guppies sometimes work sometimes dont depends on the fish and the same for Gouramis and Guppies sometimes work sometimes dont depends on the fish.

But when thats nearly half your choices and all your feature fish theres a lot that could go wrong and I would rather cut down on the risks in a tank at the start rather than deal with them when something happens. Since in your original post you said not 100% sure on the Guppies why not give these a miss then cut down your Angelfish numbers to just a pair and then get a trio of Pearl Gourami - for me thats the best bet of them mixing very nice calm gouramis and given the size plenty of space for fish that inhabit the same space in a tank. If you start off with 5/6 young angel fish wait for a pair to form then rehome the others you will be able to make sure you get a pair - when your pair form you will see the aggression levels rise to the other angels and its just best for all fish concerned when the pair is left alone.

You could look at swapping the guppies for something like Platies still colourful and easy to find yet less problematic - though I would keep all males to avoid the issues babies can bring.

Also with the Danios - more a cosmetic thing but with Gouramis Angels and Danios a lot of your fish will dwell in the same area. Just thinking maybe a different schooling species that will stay more in mid water to balance out the tank. OR you could add more cories to give the bottom a lot of activity or have a group of cories and a trio of hoplo catfish? Also one last thing with cories stick to one species as they need to school with their own kind for them to be totally happy :)

Thats great advice thank you

Ok lets say i get 2 Angels, 3 honey Gouramis, 10 Corys and 10-12 Danios, what other fish would you get if this was your set up and you had to balance around these fish?? Keeping in mind i need top middle and bottom fish like u said. Well top and middle because il have the corys for the bottom

My knowledge on different fish species isnt that great and any help would b much appreciated!

Im not over keen on Platies to be honest. Iv kept them before and they caused me all sort of problems with desease and they used to fight each other alot. Im sure they aint all like this i just really dont like them.
They look like pretty Goldfish lol

Altho im Fishless cycling and my tank will be ready to fully stock emmediatley, im not going too.
I want to take things slow and start with about 10 to 12 fish and slowly add the rest.
With that in mind, what would also be the best fish to add first to avoid fish becoming territorial?

Thanx again for all your advice and help.

Bout to look into hoplo catfish

WOW lovin Hoplo Catfish very nice!! And perfect size for the tank.
Yep will definately be getting a trio of these if i can find em!!

I wouldnt mind replacing the Danios either if u do think too many species will dwell in the same space.
Im total open to opinion.

Ah cool glad I can help :)

Hoplos are great and will really fill out the middle/bottom of the tank - going for honeys over pearl gourami is good in this sense as well and if your not getting the platties or guppies then that makes a really nice balance :)

For mid/upper schoolers has to be dwarf neon rainbow fish. I have Lemon Tetras in my tank and I really like them but the other ones I was thinking of were Emperor Tetras and Flame Tetras but stay away with neons and similar shaped ones as Angels do eat them.
