i feed my 6 cherry barbs(2M and 4F),6 zebra danios and and plan to give 1 honey gourami frozen food every night

the cherrys wait until it sinks to get it but by then most of it sinks to the bottom and they dont pick it up

zebras are on it in 1 second flat and eat most of it

i am feeding them (rotating throughout) bloodworms, brineshrimp, daphnia and krill, brine shrimp with spinach and krill

i was wondering if this is normal as it seems like i am getting alot of mulm out of the gravel (most of it looks like un eaten food) during my gravel vacs and waterchanges

i was wondering how i could get the cherries to eat more of it? and when i move my honey gourami if he/she will eat some of it?

i just hate all the food in there going to waste

P.S. i thought fish would go crazy for frozen/live foods?

also.. my male cherry barbs dont look like thier getting alot

how do i solve this? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ???? ????

You could always feed it alot slower. As in feed the normal amount in several smaller portions that you give to them over the period of say... half an hour.

Personally I have nothing against you feeding frozen most of the time, however I would suggest a high quality pellet/flake a couple of times a week. That way you know they're definitely getting all the nutrients they need, the frozen foods tend to have added vitamins etc... but I wouldn't rely purely on them myself.

try spreading it around the tank if you can that way gives everyone else a chance too, i have to do this with my cories or the swords steel it all

Perhaps you're over feeding then. Often fish only go mad for food when they are actually hungry.

2wice a day is overfeeding?

or should i feed less?

i crushed 3 different types of flakes for the main food and i have tweezers which i pinch it in

i lately have been doing 2 and 1/2 pinches
should i only do 1 then?

or maybe frozen every other night?

I can't say without seeing your fish and how much you feed that you're over feeding.

But I'm just saying, often food only ends up left on the tank floor if the fish are being overfed. Or alternatively if they're being fed too much in one go.

It's never as simple as once a day... twice a day.. 1 pinch... 2 pinches etc. But if you try to feed them so that they're still looking for food when you've finished feeding, and are always very active/excited when you feed them (but are also keeping the weight on) then you're probably feeding just about right.

Feeding schedule also alters if you want to get them ready for breeding etc. So it's not an exact science by any means. :D

That is bang on!

Mollies will eat from anywhere; surface, floating, on the bottom and even algae! You can always rely on them to find any uneaten food!

I turn down the filter and turn off the airstones.

Feed them less especially if its twice a day.
Sometimes you have to distract some fish with one food in order to feed the others. My biggest rainbow fish keeps grabbing the sinking stuff fo the plec and holds it in his mouth the greedy #28###!

Just like any other animals, fish can be picky about their food. I think for all of us it can be a little tricky getting the hang of feeding frozen or freeze-dried foods, they all have their little quirks you have to get used to. And until you get some practice, the result of your attempts is usually a bit of overfeeding.

Bloodworms are a good type to be cautious about as they can be a bit rich for some fish to digest. Brine shrimp are kind of like the junk food of the tropical fish world and should be fed as only an occasional treat. Some of the other selections may be things that different species will be more picky about and it will usually vary by species. But overall it is good that you are making the effort as variety should be a good thing if done with care and observation.

Dont feed frozen food everyday as it is a meat based product. Some flake or pellets are a good other food source & have a mix of nutriants & vitamins in them.

Mix it up a bit from day to day & your fish will be happier & healthier for it.
