Fish Noob Wants To Buy Fish And Fish Tank

ok, so I never empty the whole tank? just take out about 25% of the water once and a week and replace it? and those gravel vacums, do they vacum the rocks inside the tank with water? i mean, i dont have to take the rocks out right?

And how often is good to take all the water out to clean the tank?

There is no reason to empty the whole tank, unless you have an undergravel filtration system. Ugf is primitive, and best avoided. Gravel vacs use the water siphoned out to remove debris from the gravel, there is no reason to remove the gravel.

I have tanks that have been running for years without removing all the water, there is no need to.

cool, so any of those gravel vacs will do the trick?

ok, I went back to Pet Supermarket to see what all was included with the Kit, here it is:

So aside from that what all else I need?

For fishless cycle:
Ammonia solution (pinned article with stores that stock ammonia)
A liquid Freshwater Master Test kit with tests for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate
A dropper

Gravel vac
Couple of buckets
Lots of tea towels
Water dechlorinator

:good:

for buckets, any buckets will do?

and what is tea towels?

Buy a couple of large-ish new buckets and write 'FISH ONLY' on them; do not use buckets that have already been used in your home, they will have probably been used for cleaning products and will be potentially lethal to your fish. A couple of three gallon buckets will be fine - just make sure no one else uses them for anything. Tea towels are used for drying your washing up. Unless you have a dishwasher, of course...........

I'm going to be going on a tripe in a month from now, and be out for about 3 weeks, so II've postponed buying the acuqrium kit until I get back.

In the meantime I just want to buy a small fishbowl and a few fishes to get used to them.

Which type of fish last long? and how many fished are recommended for those small fishbowls?

Please don't buy a fish bowl. You can't really use a filter with them. Please be patient; if you keep researching you'll have a much better idea of what to do when you're ready to start with a tank.
