Maybe I'm going out of my mind but i am sure Ive noticed a difference when netting my fish dependant on the net colour I'm using, I like to hoard things and have spares for spares so i have a black, a blue, a green and a white fish net and have noticed that its far more easer to net the fish with the white one.

In some cases when i have the fish in a corner and I'm just holding the net still it looks as if the fish cant even see the net and swim calmly into it yet if i try and corner the same fish with a different colour net they go mental and stay well clear and there is no calmly swimming any where and dart in any direction to stay away from what they see, Ive even tried one of the other colour nets for a min or so had no joy tried the white one and its as if by magic they're happy to swim right into it. Has anyone else had this experience or am i just going mad ??? can See it and will go no where near the net and avoid it completely

well i use blue, and my fish are always little buggers to catch.

Mines blue and I can't catch the little buggers for the life of me. I noticed the one in my lfs is a white one, when they scoop they seem to get loads! - though could be their tanks are smaller with no decorations!

Green here... don't know if there is a difference here. depends on whether they can see color or that they just notice a big thing moving towards them...

remember the guys from the pet shop catch fish for a living! the tanks also have little ornamentation generally and are heavily stocked with the same species of fish. making it generally much easier to catch fish than it is for you at home.

i use green nets, like using big ones.

I use mostly the blue nets, not because of the color, but because of the size of the mesh this color is made of.

Most of my fish are corydoras catfish and they are known for puncturing the nets and getting their fins caught in them. At that point they may have to be cut out to free them. Blue ones are often considered to be the nets with the safest size mesh to use for catching them.

Inchworm, surely you are not saying the mesh size is dependent on the colour? I have different colour nets, a white one being the finest meshed. But I'm sure there are nets with a fine mesh size in all different colours.

Blue. That was the color the store had. The fish don't seem to be bothered by it until I catch one. Then the rest tend to go to the bottom of the tank. I might have to resort to catching during feeding time.

My goldfish are large enough and tame enough that it's easier for me not to use a net - it's quicker and safer to pick them up with clean hands instead, and they don't get stressed at all because they are used to it. I dislike nets because I've seen far too many fish lose scales or even eyes with rough handling in a net.

I sometimes have to use a (blue) net in the tropical tank to catch the faster tetras, but wherever I can try to use a plastic jug instead. My pictus cats have to be handled with a jug because they get caught up in nets anyway.

Actually, I do think they are colour coded. At least, the major brands are. Blue is very fine (doesn't even let sand through), black has bigger holes, same with green. Not sure about white.

all about size with you ladies isn't it?

It doesn't make any difference what colour net you use. It is more the skill of the catcher that makes it easy or difficult to catch a fish. Use two nets and have one stationary and chase the fish into it with the second net. And don't use small nets, they are useless. Use a 6-inch net for chasing and a 12-inch net waiting to catch the fish.

There were some new red coloured fish nets that came into the shop recently. The packaging states they are harder for the fish to see because it is red. We laughed about it because there are red fish that see each other pretty well when breeding. We started thinking what would happen if we put these red nets in the tank and the male fish got randy and started displaying to the nets. Would we be able to call the manufacturer and say fish can see red.

well i have a blue, white and green net.
for me it depends on the size of the fish i am catching, i generally use the small green one for fry and the nice big blue one for the larger fish and plecos and such
