Fish Keeping Is Bad For Your....

yep, always find myself spending money on bits i can't afford at the time.

Looking at getting a bigger tank now when pay day comes

We keep the local pet stores in business with pets and pet supplies. Dogs, cats, fish, rodents, amphibians, lizards, insects. It's a regular zoo at our house. I dont pass a new pet store without checking it out.

Sounds like my kind of house. :)

We have the 7 tanks,
2 guinea pigs
4 cats
2 cockatiels

I want some stick insects, but cant find any at the moment.

Pets at home had some last time I was in there :)

I can't wait until we move (hopefully this spring). We will be almost tripling the size of our TINY current home. I have so many plans, I just don't know how to break it to the wife that we will have a room devoted soley to reptiles/amphibians!!!

It will never end. I think I am addicted. I get withdrawal symtoms if I don't buy something every weekend.

I worked out I have £750 worth of FW fish at initial purchase price, some of which are a lot bigger than when first bought.

Currently running eight tanks and in the process of setting up a fish house which will hold two 400G' Plus a whole load of others not to mention the fish I will buy to fill them. I was considering spend £950 on a fish the other day.

I need to win the Lottery!

Its certainly not a cheap hobby.

Once you get past a few tanks, find what sells reasonably well in your area, and isn't too tough to breed. You will at least break even.

A good example for me is apistos. I had a couple of id sharks given to me, one went for $19 at an auction. I bought a pair of cacatoides for $19 at that same auction. Easy to breed, sell well. I've had them going for about a year now, sold two males, not even a pair, for $27 at an auction yesterday.

All you need for these is a couple of 20 gallon tanks, nothing fancy. They make way more money than they take at this point, with a minimal hardware investment.

I've been thinking about this (breeding) recently, but i think i would be restricted to guppy/mollies/platties and bn plecs but none of these exactly make big bucks!

Start with the bn, use these to fund some L# plecs. I started with platys, they bought some angels, who have basically been paying for most everything.

BN would be good, there a little tricky to find around here (Essex, UK) and any that do normally go for around £12 when small.
