yep well here it is, i have a african (about 3 inches) and he has taken over a surprizingly small proportion of my tank. his tank mates are a few danios (that could easily fit into his mouth but he couldn't care less) and a golden goruami, once again, no trouble! so i figured he was kinda docile now that he has matured, the other fish swim right bu him and into his cave and he just sits there not careing..... BUT NOW, i introduced a firemouth into the mix, which seem like it would work, because with lost of space and such he just took over the compleetly other side of the tank, i thought GREAT 2 different teritories in there, were all good.... they the little sfrican firgger come over to the other side (which i never seen him do) and the havoc started, he chased the firemouth around for a long time untill he was obviously VERY stressed , mean while i'm uprooting all my plants with my nets trying to catch on of them, now as it stands i have the firemouth(about 1.5 inches) in a ten gallon, i realize this is bad , this is where you come in!!

What can i do to ease the introduction of the firemouth and make them calm down a bit so i can put them in the same tank..... or is this just doomed from the start?

this is why u shouldnt keep africans in a community and only with other africans.

there 10x more aggressive than any other fish.

there not much you can do. cichlids dont really like each other and thats why u have to overstock an african tank and provide more hiding places than there are fish.

if you overstock theres less chance of a single fish being picked on because the bully wont kno who to chase.

doesnt apply to communitys with africans in tho, jus species tanks.

there jus so much tougher and aggressive than other fish. i was told not to put my 4.5" auratus in with my oscar cos he would woop him (i wanted to do it cos the auratus was being a ***** and i thought hercules could sort him out).

for those reasons even the docile ones dont make good community tank mates.

is a shame cos there gorgeous fish but then again species tanks set out like the correct biotope do look pretty good!

well he is VERY docile in the community that he is in , although i didn't want it to be a community.... but none the less, there are danios and a gourami in there so o well , he doesen't pick on them so i guess he'll stay there....
