Hi, i bought three of these fish a few hours ago and i have no idea what they are still! The shop owner didn't know either, as they were handed in.

I think they are some kind of Cichlid, but i dont know what. Here are some pics:

Also, could you please tell me their usual price, so i know if i've been ripped off ;) i'll tell you what i paid when i know what they are

Thanks

The bottom half is more yellow than on the pic.. they look even nicer now they are in my tank with black gravel, it contrasts the yellow :D

Yes it does look a bit like a Julidochromis, but the tail is different.. the top half has black spots, and the bottom half is solid yellow.

And the face doesn't go down like the Julidochromis.

It looks like that.. what i read they are quite aggressive. they will be going back soon!

thanks :)

they were £2.50 each anyway

the one in the back is a german blue ram.it's a cichlid but not an aggressive one.the other two are definately aggressive cichlids although i don't know their scientific names.you have two options, keep the ram if you are going to have a peaceful tank or keep the other two if you are wanting a spieces tank.

agreed one is a Melanochromis auratus and the other a Blue Ram

unsure on the third atm, can you take a pic from the side?
It is definietley a central american cichlid of some sorts

The third one looks like a young firemouth, or possibly Thorichthys ellioti.

Either way, it will get a bit bigger than the ram, but in a decent size tank (say 200l) they should be OK together. Smaller fish like tetras are likely to be munched by it.

Its an auratus fish. Its a very aggressive fish and they need to be in group of 6.

I know the other two are German Blue Rams and Firemouths. It was just the Auratus that I didn't know.

I will be taking them back to the shop ASAP.

There was 6 at the shop, and my cousin took three aswell.

Just a random question but how big is the tank?

i have no idea what the yellow guys are (species wise) but i do know that they're african cichlids which may end up destroying the ram and firemouth cichlid in the background of the first picture.

they're pretty sweet looking fish though :good: fish like that make me want an african set-up lol

which ones are you going to keep?

pink.
