Fish Id Please

any chance of and id on these two fish i got today to go with my oscars they are around 10" and both the same species i suspect male and female

They are tilapia butterkoferi and with out a doubt 100% will kill everything in your tank and then one will the other they are pure evil If I was you I would rehome one keep another in a tank on its own or rehome both there is no other option im afraid.

are your sure they all get along great at the mo, and the have been in a tank in shop for months with loads of other fish

I agree with Mark they are def tilapia butterkoferi,

Edit: I'd give them back unless you have a 125G empty tank kicking about somewhere

Not just that these fish are single tank wet pet fish im afraid mate so you need to 75g tanks .

im realy not sure wot to do id be gutted to get rid of them they look great, and seem to get along ok to be honest. and were mixed for months at the shop in a 4ft.

any suggestions? is it worth a try

hmm, i think that if as you say they "were mixed for months at the shop" I would probably be inclined to give it a go, BUT be prepared to very quickly remove them if things turn ugly, which considering the reputation of these fish is likely to happen sooner or later.

There's a good chance that at the shop they weren't mature, or were just packed in. LFS will intentionally stock some fish to the point that none of them can try to claim a territory. Works in the short term, but in the long term, it could be a bloodbath.

i have spoke to lfs and they said i could take them back if doesnt work out so maybe worth a try. corleone you are right now i think of it the tank was quite overstocked.

But you wont be able to get in there quick enough, they aim to kill not to get fish out of their territory......You may not be at home....

Beautiful Fish tho Wish I could get one in my 48x12"
