Fish Grouping

Hi all,


I've got a Juwel Rekord 600 with 3 x Cherry barbs, 3 x Neon Tetras, 1 x small Pakistani Loach, 2 x Panda catfish and a Golden Ram.

I notice that the Tetras and Barbs tend to cluster on the right side of the tank when I have the light on. If the light is off they swim around normally.

I've tested the water and it's fine.

Any ideas why they are behaving like this?

Most of the fish that you mentioned are schooling fish. Get at least 3 more barbs, at least 3 more tetras, and at least 3 more panda catfish. (I'm assuming you mean corydoras?)

That should do the trick.

Thanks for the suggestion. I would love to increase the number of fish but I don't think my tank is big enough to sustain them (it's only 14 UK Gallons - 63 litres).

3 of each may be a push but 2 barbs, 2 tetra and 3 corys would definitely be fine. However judging by your stocking your tank is probabaly running a bit cold for gold rams.
Ideally they should be kept at 28-30C, the rest of your stock is happier at significantly lower levels...24C would be good for them.

I've had the Ram for over a year and he/she seems happy enough, a lovely fish. I have got the heater set at 24C but with the hot weather the temp in the tank is nearly 30C - but they are all lively enough. In fact the "clustering" doesn't seem as bad as it was. Maybe even fish can appreciate a bit of decent weather in England!
