I have a 20g (US, long) and I have 1 American Shark Catfish, 1 Emerald Catfish, 1 marble cory, 1 black spotted barb, and 1 RubberLip. In the tank is 1 inch of gravel, 3 large plastic cups, 1 large stone fish (in signature picture below), 1 mini figurine of fish, and one fake plant... ( and of course filter tube and heater) I am getting more fake plants and a few real plants... but I was wondering if I have rooms for two or three more black spotted barbs because the one I was is agressive now thats its the only black spotted barb in the tank, so It once and a while pecks on other fish...and i was hoping to get a dwarf puffer or two..or some nice gouramis ^_^ But I'm just worried about the ammonia levels, nitrate, ect. and the room for the fish....any ideas?

dwarf puffer is a big no no in your tank.
Cories and barbs are schooling fish so should definetaly be kept in groups.

as for adding fish, not sure of what they actually are from there common name, but i have a feeling that shark catfish will outgrow your tank...

You probably have room for a few more fish IF you get rid of the shark catfish. I imagine it is a Iridescent Shark Catfish which will get over 2 feet long. Also, you need more corys as they are schooling fish and need to be kept in groups of at least 3.

If he says he knows about the fish then he has obviously done research on them. There is nothing wrong with buying a baby of a fish that will grow to be a monster if you are willing to re-home it or do somthing about it when it gets too big.
I wish people would stop putting other people down for doing this. I bet he isnt the only one out there!!

This is comment is in no way aimed at anyone in particular, but rehoming fish which you are keeping "until they get too big" is inevitably going to lead to stunting, and that's no good for a fish. It would be equally irresponsible to buy a st bernard dog, if you live in a 1 bedroom flat with no garden.

I have other, bigger tanks for him... and he's about 5 inches long at the moment.. I have bigger fish in there with him.... and I've had him for about a year now.. I do put a safe amount of salt in the tank for all the fish....

So why have i seen on here a few times that it is ok to do so?? Not only on here but also at most fish stores iv visited.
I also didnt meen 'when' it gets too big, i meant 'befor'. so im sorry if you missunderstood what i said.
i hvae got a couple of baby plecs that i bought, intending to rehome them befor they get too big, and i really dont see a problem with that as long as you treat them well and move them on befor anything happens that can harm them.

JPMarshMallow, I personally dont see a problem with what you have done if you are willing to put him in your bigger tank befor it gets to late. He seems well looked after, and that you know what your doing so i think you should keep the good job up.

You want to be careful with the salt if you've got a cory in there.

Simply adding salt to a tank does not make it brackish.

A brackish tank is for brackish fish only. Not others like barbs, and especially not scaleless fish like cories *winces*. BTW, is it marine salt (and not aquarium salt or tonic salt)?
