/www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/php/detail62_45492.phpi have dosed for the second time this morning then turned on the tank lights, to find a dead platy and a dead ballon molly, the molly looked fine yesterday, cant tell you how gutted i am,
so saying this are we still sure i should be treating for flukes??
the fish are eating fine, i cant see any sign of an excess slime coat,( not sure that i should be able to see it)
maybe i should use the anti bac along side the sterazin??
there are also 2 pregnant guppies n the tank(sorry didnt think ti say that days ago) will they be ok?
im just not feeling confident at all on this one, and if it carrues on at this rate its going to wipe the tank out
Don't mix meds unless you know it's safe to do so. Such meds will usually list which meds they're safe to use with. I believe I've already mentioned in another post that they restrict the gills' ability to absorb oxygen. Using meds together restrict this even further, and increase the risk of renal damage and failure.
The only way to confirm either way, is to swap the gills of the next corpse, and stick the sample under a microscope to have a look
Apply some "metheien blue" (spelling?) to make the cells and/or flukes more obvious. The organisum with the greatest number of parasites presant is the prime candidate. Bacteria look like "blobs" with a centre. Flukes are a longer stick with a rough head
thanks Rabbut, what i was thinking yesterday was... are they flicking to get off some of the algae ( maybe to eat it) but then i thought,if this was the case then why are they dying?
theres no bodies overnight this time, so thats a relief.
but if it is an bacterial infection of some sort, will the sterazin touch it?? i mean is it designed only for the fluke bacteria/louse, whatever it is.( is it a broad range med?)
there is definatley more movement in the tank this morning.so thats a good thing, they are swimming about, and have had brekfast, tho there is still some flicking going on, mainly guppies doing it.
oh i have said that then noticed another ballon molly is swimming funny, more upwards, and a few fish are having a go with her, still, they are odd fish anyway, so it could be ok,there a few desperatley trying to pick algae off the window.
all in all, nothing looks as bad as it has done, so i really hope this is the start of the cure
fingers crossed

They should be the same colour as the rest of the fish.
