We've got 99.9% of the UK covered
With Royal Mail Special Delivery Next Day we guarantee delivery* to most UK addresses by 1pm the next working day. This includes Northern Ireland, Jersey and Guernsey.

Some places take longer to deliver to, but we still guarantee delivery within three working days by 5.30 pm.

So no its not the best way to send them.

And im not an #### mate im not the one who has sent out fish by the wrong courier am I.

I dont care who she is and whos birthday it is its to cold to post fish. And she isnt that great as she is sending fish through the royal mail who DO NOT send fish meaning they do not know that there livestock and they wont be treated that way if she is that much of a great person why are they not being sent through a courier who do deal in livestock.

Maybe as you know so much then you should see the sender, you are missing the whole point here, you should watch the tone you use Mr know it all and stop slandering other people on here,do you work for royal mail or something????????????????????? Why bother with this thread if you are just going to slag off other members?

No I havent slagged off anyone and I dont work for Royal mail but I do know that they do not send livestock and you seem to be missing the point. You banging on about how you have not got your fish and they may die but they may die because they have not been posted as livestock they are posted as Next day delivery through royal mail and its because of whats happening to you which is why they dont send livestock through the post. I am bothering with this thread because you were bleating on about how worried for the fish you are but the person who posted them cant be that bothered which is the reason they are now in the hands of the royal mail and not a courier company that WILL send out fish. But fish do have to be labled that they are tropical livestock hense the reason I showed you what type of box they should be in. And as I mentioned earlier this isnt the time of year to be posting them so maybe these are the questions you need to be asking the OP not me she maybe a respected betta breeder on here but posting fish illegally through the royal mail is not a way to gain respect.

Did you not see my post i sent via royal mail and according to my tracking number they arrived this morning. i have clearly stated there was live tropical fish in the box by writing on it, and also told the royal mail employee who said it doesnt mention live animals in their policy so its ok to send them he give me a list of things they could not send, also i placed them in a polystyrofoam crate a little better than a cardboard box surrounded by air pockets and covered in bubble wrap with two heat packs attached to the sides what are good for 40 hours and you could clearly feel the heat in the packageing just by touch after 20 minutes. So i cannot see the problem sending via mail this time of year or even using royal mail they appear to have done good by me

Yay at last someone with some sense :good:

What can you send by post?
James Taylor in their Press Office told me: "The vast majority of living creatures are prohibited from being sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery, or any other postal service that we offer. Some living creatures, such as earthworms, can be sent, but not fish. There is a full list of prohibited creatures on the A-Z section of our website."

The statement on Royal Mail's website says: "Certain living creatures are accepted only if enclosed in packs constructed so as to prevent injury to Parcelforce Worldwide staff, its agents or damage to other parcels. The following are accepted: bees; silkworms; leeches and certain parasites, destroyers of noxious pests, other insects sent to or from officially recognised institutions, mealworms, earthworms, caterpillars, ragworms, pupae and chrysalides, lugworms, maggots and fish fry and eggs. To send any of the above, Parcelforce By 9am, 10am, by noon or Parcelforce 24 services must be used."

Looking back at the sellers' listings who were offering to send fish by Royal Mail Special Delivery, I spotted a similarity. Most of the fish currently on offer were livebearers - Endler's or Guppies - and all were being sold as "fry".

I guess that these sellers think that the that Royal Mail's Special Delivery, which is a next day service, falls under the Parcelforce services which the Royal Mail says are OK for sending fish fry and eggs.

However, another call to Martine Mumby in the Royal Mail's Press Office proves this is not the case.

"I can categorically say that Special Delivery isn't classed as the same service as Parcelforce next day services. Royal Mail and Parcelforce are separate companies and it's Royal Mail policy not to send fish."

I'm not sure what the Royal Mail uses as its definition of fry - size or age - as even adult Endler's are pretty miniscule. A newly born shark is, by definition, also a fry, but it's a whole lot bigger.

If a fry is any newborn or young fish would I be allowed to pop a baby shark in the post, providing I sent it via a Parcelforce next day delivery service?

Its not how you send fish and no it is not ok.

Fish are actually prohibited by Royal Mail, so I'm surprised that people are using them. This is from the prohibited list on the Royal Mail website.

Keeping mail safe
Things we can't carry

We take all legal and safety issues very seriously, and we refuse to carry any of the illegal or harmful items listed below. If they are found in the post, we can return them to the sender or dispose of them. And in some cases, the sender may face prosecution.

* Living creatures
Except certain insects - see Restricted Goods

These restrictions apply throughout our UK and International postal service. However, restrictions do vary from country to country and some items, for example those with a high value, may be prohibited by foreign postal services. If you are not sure about what you can’t send, please call us on 08457 740 740.

If you have to claim from Royal Mail for late/non-delivery you may find yourself on dodgy ground.

No your missing the point, you seem to be unable to follow this thread,i have not once mentioned the fish might die, they have heatpacks and such like that is not worrying me,my point is if it is sent NEXTDAY DELIVERY then you should get it THE NEXTDAY be it a FISH or TEDDY BEAR they should carry out the service that has it has been sent by

nakomis90, the service does not state that a package will definitely arrive on the next day before 1300, it says that either they deliver it the next day before 1300 or they refund the price of the service. So I'm sorry to say that at this time of year especially I wouldn't get your hopes up too much.

Royal Mail Special Delivery Next Day

Royal Mail does in fact send fry, I've been told on many occasions by both breeders and royal mail workers. The thing is, they never define what size of fish they class as "fry" - thats the easy loophole in their rules which they've yet to sort.

I've had fish delivered in that kind of box you posted Mark, by Royal Mail. Nothing whatsoever was said reguarding it.
