Fish Death....

It's used for putting very ill fish to sleep. Not a pleasant job, but better than watching them suffer.

How do you do that? I presume you must quarantine it then administer the clove oil? That cant be very pleasant at all

If i could have located some I was going to quarantine him and then add some drops to the water. Managed to get some now, lets hope it never gets opened.

Skins.

I read on here that the best way to do it is to take the fish into a very small container, with barely enough tank water to cover it. Then stir a few drops of the clove oil into some more water in a cup, then pour it into the fish's container.

What I found was that, given that it's oil, it won't naturally mix with water, if you just put some drops into the container, it won't mix, and the fish doesn't get any. By stirring it in a cup, it doesn't mix as such, but the stirring action breaks up the oil so that it's more widespread in the water. By then pouring this into the container, it is further spread out, and the fish takes it in through their gills, and goes to sleep. That was my experience, anyway.

Then I disposed of the body in a sandwich bag in the bin - don't flush them down the toilet.

Isnt it clove oil and vodka?

The clove oil acts as an anaesthetic and puts the fish to sleep (but doesnt kill it) then you add the vodka (or pure alcohol if poss) which does.

Death by vodka? Now thats how I wana go. Seriously well done for the humane response. I know too many folk who just flush them.

Another way is to bag the fish with some tank water (but no air in the bag) & pop it in the fridge for half an hour, then transfer it to the freezer. The lil guy should just quietly go to sleep in the fridge & the freezer finishes him off.

I like the sound of death by vodka.... seems a bit of a shame to waste it on the fishes though!!! Its not got to that stage at the moment with the remaining two but it is worthwhile knowing for future reference.
