one of my betta girls jumped out of her tank once, and there was a cover on as well, but the cat must have knocked it off. And a black skirt tetra jumped when we were chaning his tank to sand from gravel.

also, are you sure it isnt an upsidedown syndontis catfish? Corries arent usually upsidedown, and if so it may have died. But whith the USD catfish, they hide alot when the lights are on, so maybe at night you will find him! :)

I have a weather loach who hops up to the ridges on my bucket filter and tries to swim around the bucket.

I've had a few different fish jump ship. The main culprits have been african butterflies and peacock eels though. I usually keep my microworm cultures covering the holes in the cover glass but have forgotten to put them back a few times. Doing stuff inside the tank like waterchanges or rearanging, etc are also times I like to keep a sharp eye and ear out as well. Several have seen it as a perfect time to jump, when my attention is at the opposite end of the tank.

The peacocks are especially good at finding a way out, I've had two completely vanish without a trace (I suspect the cats found them before me) and my oldest peacock has jumped out about 3 or 4 times over the years. I actually saw it fly out the tiniest hole I'd left uncovered while sitting on the couch one time - splash and it was behind the wall unit, another time all I heard was the splash. Luckily I have found him each time he has gone for a wander (he's like a cat, 9 lives lol) and thrown him back in the tank, covered in cat fur and dust, etc. Damn buggers to pick up as well, slimy, wriggly, strong and sharp spines on their fins. Honestly, I think they don't want to be saved the way they struggle sometimes

 I had a couple of hatchet fish that leapt to their deaths, when cleaning the tank never realised they we're jumpers assumed they had died in the tank and been eaten until it came to moving house!

A new jumper, first one since last fall! My wife bid on a pair of nice orange swords at a club meeting Friday night. Set up a quar tank when we got home, went to feed them Saturday morning, 1 sword missing. No where to hide in a bare tank, I don't know how this one got out, I have a piece of acrylic over the whole top of the tank.

Found her on the floor under the stand behind some buckets, at least the dog didn't chow on this one. I have to call the guy I got them from, give him some greif over his circus trained jumping swords.

I've never had any fish jump (I do have a good hood on the tank though), but one of my clown loach tried to escape by hiding inside the leg of one of my ornaments. I only realised when I rinsed him out of it into my kitchen sink, ahh  He then did the same thing to my boyfriend, when he cleaned out the tank, naughty fishy!!!

Swordtails are incredibly good jumpers and are well known for it. It always surprises me that LFS don't bother to mention it to people. Out of my dozens of swordies though I've only had one exit the tank on his own and I think it was because he was being stressed out by another male.
