At work today this girl came in and asked about bettas. She said she needed 12 of them for her wedding reception. I guess they were going to have betta bowls as part of the center piece of each table.

I was so mad! Basically she was treating these fish like some Martha Stewart cornhusk centerpiece creation! ARGH! Why do so many people treat fish and fish tanks like decorations instead of living creatures? It would be one thing if she was going to have homes set up for the bettas after the reception (still wouldn't be the greatest idea) but she was just going to have whoever won the centerpiece take them if they wanted to! I am sure that the bettas would survive the handling (by probably drunk party people) and then a long bumpy ride home without a bag!

Jeez! Sometimes I hate my job..... :S

I no what you mean I don't think people should use fish in this way, what's wrong with flowers displays, people throwing drinks in the water and children touching and messing with the fish, I don't agree with it at all.

My sister had goldfish at her wedding last year, me being me, I quetioned where the fish where going after and thankfuly they all had homes to go to. Weather they where good homes I dunno.

But at least I showed my comcern, and my feelings wgere made VERY clear.

If I had been in your shoes I would have refused to sell her the fish. Bettas are no less of an "ornament" than any other fish. They are an animal, they should be treated as such.

Ben
