Fish And Sunlight.

I'm moving house soon and there isn't a lot of space for my 180l tropical tank.

There is a spot but the top 6 inches of the aquarium will be in sunlight(blocked by the backing paper)

It is quite heavily planted and I use liquid carbon for the plants.

I understand that sunlight creates algae but with my plants do you think it would stop that?

I dont think plants stop algae growing if thats what you been but im not sure.
I would of thought algae would just grow on the plants

I think that you would still have problems with algae, yes plants do help with algae but algae will most likely grow if the tank is in direct sunlight

When you say it will be bloacked by backing paper, are you saying that the sun will be hitting the background? or will the sun be going directly into the tank.

The tank will be sat in front of the window 6 inches above the cill but I have a background stuck to the rear of that tank on the out side.

I was under the impression that if I have plants and I am using liquid carbon there wont be enough 'food' for algae to grow.

My tank ATM.... needs a bit of pruning.

I think that there is a good chance your plants may do even better when receiving natural light. If the plants are flourishing, they may be able to out-compete algae for resources.

My tank gets sunlight throughout the day, the plants seem happy as do my fish. I don't have any more algae than in my other tank that gets no sun at all.
Tank looks great by the way.

Gotta say that is a beautiful looking tank you have there, it looks fresh and very healthy , i would try to hide the heater behind the plants tho.

I would but there is already a 2nd heater hidden behind there xD

But my to my original question.... looks like I may as well give it ago in front of the window. xD
