Hi All,

It looks like I have an issue with Ich in my tank, the only thing I can put it to are the marbled hatchet I bought 3 weeks ago which look fine btw

Unfortunately I had to euthanise an oto which was badly affected and the only other fish I can see affected is one of my tapajos :(

I've been away all week on business so this is the first I've seen of it, they were fine on Monday I think

The tank is a fairly well matured 350 litre tank using media from Autumn last year, it had a 40% water on Monday and Ammonia/Nitrite are at zero

What meds should I consider, I have melafix handy but nothing else...should I get some Ich specific meds for this? I'm in the UK

Here's a couple of pics of it:

I couldn't get a steady shot as it is very frigidity right now

Hi. I don't think Melafix is for white-spot. I'm in the UK and always use Protozin and it works every time for me. You dose it on days 1,2,3 and 6. So obviously the first time you use it is day one. You can get it at any aquarium shop and dose one drop per UK gallon of tank water. Some say to half the dose for loaches but I never have and haven't lost any. Can you get any today as the quicker you treat the better? Some here will say to just increase the temperature and add a little salt but anyway I've told you what I use and my lfs dealer uses Protozin too.

Thanks Chris
I have a P@H 5 mins away on foot, going there now to find some treatment, I'll see whether they have protozin, if not I assume anything ich specific will be okay, I have on loach in that tank either...

can you do me a favor
have you tested your tank
what are the stats and temp please

Zero and zero for Ammonia and Nitrites and I did a 40% water change on Monday. The temp of the tank is normally 26-27C, but I am upping it to 30 over the next day or so. I do a once a week water change between 30-40% on the tank, and have 2 ex1200 filters running on it, the media is well established. Never had issues with white spot before now since I started in the hobby in October last year

I have been and bought some Intrepid Anti Whitespot treatment and have now dosed the tank with the day 1 treatment, day 4 I'll do it again, P@H had that or thier own brand stuff and no protozin...

Now you're going to tell me that I didn't need to do that right?

Now my tank water is now green instead of yellow :( I used 35mm for 350 litres, and managed to stain the wifes plastic measuring jug

no it sounds like your going in the right
direction you have upped your temp and your treating
i prefer king British white spot treatment but that's
only personal choice just follow the directions on the bottle
to the line remove carbon from your filter as this will remove
treatment

ps buy a new jug before your lass finds out

That's good to hear...no carbon so no worries. I have some spare carbon bags for my filters, would it be a good idea to put those in one of them when the treatment is over? And bin them a couple of weeks later?

In hindsight I wish I had done a big water change before the treatment as I will not be able to do a water change until next Thursday now at the earliest :(

Are the intrepid treatments okay? Anyone had any bad experiences with them? I will get some more treatment just in case after this and will get what comes recommended as I will have time to order online etc if I have to...

Too late she's seen the jug...I've told her to get a nice shiny glass purex jug now, so if I use it it won't get stained

It'll have to wait, I'm out tonight with the fellas for the football

I think Saturday and Sunday will be all for her...once I get rid of the hangover in the morning :)

Thanks for your help and reassurance

Hi again. LOL at the wife and the jug! :hyper: You should be okay with that treatment and the water does go a bit green with these treatments.Think they contain malachite green. Don't worry about the water change as the important thing is you've got a treatment in AND upped the temperature.

P.S. Enjoy the footie and the booze. I'll be enjoying both but indoors. :good:

Thanks for the help

She didn't go ballistic like I thought she would, she treats me too well! She was actually more concerned about the fish which is good, those days away working with her feeding them has got her appreciating why I love this hobby so much now

I did bring up the point of NEEDING a third tank for quarantines but she just said "this house is not an aquarium", I shall persist though, I only want a 10 gallon, not too much to ask

Enjoy tonight, it will be celebration or commiseration drinks tonight so I plan on drinking way in excess after the game

I don't know about you but it's been quite reassuring to see all the big teams playing not all that well, hopefully England shows us what they're made of tonight!

All seem fine and the troubled geo now seems just like the rest in behaviour, I will know over the next few days whether all is good for the long term. I haven't noticed any other fish getting infected which must be a good sign! Maybe I caught it fairly early on?

Temp is at 29C and my water is now the nice tannin stained yellow it once was :)
