I'm so pleased i've got my first lot of gourami fry :) , i added a new female on sunday and i think that really excited the male , had him since January and the females a couple of weeks

Male dwarf gourami only mated with the females yesterday evening from about 7pm onwards (http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=274080)

So i floated the nest into a baby net at around 11pm last night , so i thought i'd keep an eye on it , when i checked at around 4pm there were lots of loose eggs floating around the net , i checked again just now (when skins finished) and there are lots of tiny swimmers swimming around the nest .

They hatched sooo quick amazing !
When do i start giving them the fry food?

Thanks Sarah x

Offer food as soon as they are free swimming.

Thanks for the reply drobby ;)

they are free swimming now cos without the male looking after the nest the eggs began to drop out and they have hatched
so will give them some food in a mo

thanks Sarah x

free swimming means swimming unaided and horizontal not just floating around, they should be a few days old before they are ready to have their first lot of food, ideal situation would be to leave the male to hatch the fry on his own and raise them for the first few days until free swimming, it can be done the way you dont it, but to be honest what is meant to be should left to be as mother nature intended. either way good luck with you fry and pictures would be great as they grow.

:hyper: weldone there sarah :good: good luck with the fry... As said when they first hatch its litterally and egg with a tail then you watch it form, then next day they should get the eyes then you not the body forming, then its a case of the egg<food sack starting to shrink until no more, then as stated at first its swimming around in all funny posistions and upside down, then they will end up uprighted and swimming normally :good: feed little and often but not to often

awww congratulations sarah :flowers: hope everything goes well for u and the lil guys :)

shelagh xxxxxx

ps,can we see pics as soon as they are free, ive never seen gourami fry

Thanks for the comments

will deffo give pics as soon as i can take them lol
trying to borrow another camera then i can take the pics

modaz - i didnt leave the male to hatch them as i still have 2 juvey platys in the tank - that i cant catch yet - and they kept destroying the nest so i put what was left in the baby net and saved my first lot of fry

p.s just had my first lot of Limia Nigrofasciata fry aswell - 12 week pregnancy for 11 fry but they are quite large fry - compared to guppy and platy . pics in rare livebearer section

what foods do you have?

crushed i mean literally dust lol

i have first bites , crushed spirulina , crushed bloodworm , crushed de-shelled brine shrimp eggs , crushed brine shrimp , crushed algae and crushed seaweed (limias like this) , i think thats it

It's all the food i use to feed my minnow fry - breeding neon tetras at the moment will see how they go

Can you recommend any other baby food for them ?

That sounds good, I also have crushed pellets and mealworms crushed to a fine powder, and i use live micro-worms and the deshelled brineshrimp eggs :good:
good luck with it

Thanks hun - i'll try and get some meal worms - can i get reptile ones and crush up ?

just got a tiny fry onto a white plastic spoon to try and take a pic lmao but when they are only about 1 1/2 -2mm its a bit hard
Showed my little girl the tiny fry and she named it smudge lmao (i'm never going to know which one that is there's about 100 fry in the net

I am going to clear out the platy and guppys from the 60ltr in the kitchen and stop keeping them and use the tank as a grow out one for the gouramis and a holfing tank for any limias i'm going to try and sell , just going to get a pair of german blues to go in there so there will be a fish always in the tank even when the babies have gone

OMG sorry if all muddled MS head not good today lol - left the poor dog in the garden for 2 hours earlier

Just checked the net and i definately have over 100 little wrigglys , there are some eggs left in a tiny bit of nest these are clear though so would you say these haven't been fertilized by the male?

Thanks Sarah x

just spoke to lfs and they said if i get them to 2p size they'll buy them off me
jeez they are only just born not a bad thing though knowing i can sell them
