That is what I'm saying. There are exceptions to the general population of FM's there and hundreds that are agressive. i read earlier that they are territoral agressive.

when people say they back down easily from something bigger then them, there bull####ing you.

I think you may have misunderstood me or I didnt put it clearly enough, I'm not saying that FM are wimps, I'm saying that red devils are more aggressive. I have never seen a 'wimpy' RD, but like I said before each fish has a different personality. I'm sure there are FM that are more aggressive than other fish, but I'm saying generally red devils will be more aggressive.

Thats why I said 'FM are quite peaceful for cichlids'. They can work in community tanks, I personally have done it years ago, but I wouldnt even think about putting a red devil in with say average community fish eg. swordtails. Agreed they can hold their own, but when you compare them to other CA cichlids, on a whole I just dont think they are as aggressive as some of the other fish we see.

On topic of stocking, agreed I would put something in that can handle a FM (though it can work with dithers). If it was my tank I would do a pair of FM and a pair of cons, with clear territories and something to block each others line of sight.

On the topic of firemouths, would they work well with other large American cichlids like the chocolate and severums?
