This is my first post so please be gentle!!

I have fallen in love with an adorable fire eel at my local aquarium.

I would really love to bring him home but im concerned that my tank wont be big enough for him. I have a 3ft tank that i could use for him. Would this be big enough when he is fully grown?

I really dont have enough room for another huge tank, i have a 5ft tank specially made for my turtles.

What kind of filter is suitable for an eel? I have a fluval 3+ at the moment in that tank, would that be suitable?

Do they need to be kept with other fish or would he be happy on his own?

Sorry for all the questions, i just dont want to bring him home and not have a suitable environment!

Hi Alison

welcome to the forum

sorry to disappoint you but a 3ft will be no good for a fire eel. They are lovely fish you are right I have a 21 inch one in my 5ft. They potentially grow to 3ft themselves although Im yet to see one that size

You can get smaller spiny eels? :good:

Ahh thats a pain, he was so adorable!

If I had room for another 5ft tank id definetly be getting him!

Oh well, think I will have a look at some of the smaller ones then.

I saw the pics of your eel, hes lovely! The markings are beautiful!

cheers Alison they are beautiful but I never take a picture of him that shows a realistic image as they snake around so much rather than sit still when out in the open from his tunnel
