Finrot? Any Help Appreciated!

At the moment I am using Tetra Media Lifeguard tablets I have crushed and added 2 to the tank as it states 1 tablet per 30L. I have also added 3 teaspoons of aquarium salt as per the instructions on the salt packaging.

UK bacterial medication will only be affective on mild bacteria infections. Once they progress you need antibiotics from a vet.
Goldfish are tough so just hope he got enough fight left in him.

Good Luck.

Ah. I wasn't aware they were illegal. My bad. Sorry. And i agree that you need to go to a vet and get some of the best stuff to save the poor little guy. Hope he pulls through

Okay thank you, I will go to Pets at Home tomorrow as they have a Vets and see about getting some antibiotics asap

Good news. Its good to see you will do whatever is necessary to help him. Its good to see that.

Ah. I wasn't aware they were illegal
It's Illegal to have them shipped over here.  Probably scared we might use them are selves LOL.
There also other reasons like the medications being mixed with harmful ingredients.

Oh, that explains it lol. My brain just gets mixed up with all of these treatments for like a million different things!! And then there's the medicated food and it just gets me all mixed up!! Lol

I have just called the Pets at Home vets and they said they do not really specify with fish and it would be best to talk to the staff there, which i done so right at the beginning. They said by all means I can come in with him and she can take a look but would have to order something in, in terms of antibiotics etc they did not really seem to know that you can get antibiotics for fish.

I do not think it would be beneficial for him with the stress of moving him and taking him to Pets at Home in the state he is in. I will contact my independent local vet tomorrow however they are closed on a Sunday.

Thanks for the update. I find pet's at home to be pretty much useless to be honest. And instead of taking the fish himself in, why don't you take some hq pics of him, where the problem is, that should work and save you the trouble of netting him and save the fish the stress of being moved.... No sure if that will be accurate enough for them but if you take loads of pictures chances are some of them will be useful...

And if not then I would do what you are thinking, and contact an actual vet as they will probably know more than the pets at home vets in my opinion. :)

Hope this helped

They are hard to get hold of from a vet with fish. But if you explain that your fish has columnaris they will sometimes do the research and prescribe a antibiotic without taking the fish into see them. Just say you have tried LFS bought bacterial medications and they don't seem to be that affective on the fish.

aha. yeah you could also do what wilder said, say that you've tried most of the medications out there and that none of them actually work...

Hello there. That new tank I assume is not fully cycled as you have set it up and placed him in it. May I suggest you going online and buying a bottle of Dr Tim's One and only nitrifying bacteria, shake the bottle well and pour the whole contents in the tank once you have finished treating him. Did the previous owner keep the filter media in optimal condition to stay cycled?
Poor fish looks really poorly, I hope he pulls through for you. Keep up the treatment for as long as needed until he is in the clear. Good luck

Hi, the owner mentioned cycling the tank and said he has left some of the water in the tank along with in the filter for that reason. I have just been to the Vets at Pets at Home and they are not helpful at all, I was informed to ask the staff in Pets at Home instead as they would know more. When i did, they only reiterated what was said to me when I first went in on mon/tuesday.

They did say the outlook does not look bright as they have never seen one as bad as this before. I am going to contact my local vet tomorrow when they are open about antibiotics as if it is indeed columnaris then wouldn't he need anti bacterial treament and not anti-fungal?

They also said to do a 25%/30% water change once a week only as any more than that will be removing any treatment I am using.

Thank you for the info on the Dr Tim's One and only nitrifying bacteria, I will definitely look into this!

I never been to pets at home so I can't comment on them. But They don't seem to have a good reputation by what you read on here.

Is the goldfish still active. Or is he acting sluggish and lethargic?

they are pretty bad wilder, one store near me is good, but that 1....
