Finrot? Any Help Appreciated!

Not very good filters that are run by an air stone.
At least you know now it's not black carbon.

When I have checked him this morning it looks like he has white spots now. Not a lot but they are there, is this progression of the disease? How come all the treatment, salt and change of water isn't working ?

Because the tanks far to small and the filter not keeping up with his waste.
When you say spots. How big are they?

They are small however he still has the finrot and cotton symptom until I get a new tank as a matter of urgency within the next day or so do you think I would be best to buy a large plastic box from the likes of pound stretcher and move him into that so he has more room? I would all the filter , decor and stones are well.

I will post a picture later today when I am home from work.

Should I get white spot med and use that as well as fin rot? Or should I not mix meds?

I am also doing 30% water changes daily now if this helps.

Thank you for all the help so far!

If you buy a large container you will need a filter.
Just transfer the old filter sponge to the new filter.

Are the spots on the fish the size of a grain of salt?

I would say yes they look like a grain of sand

Get some netting to place on the container just to make sure that he safe if he trys to jump out.

OK. He now has whitespot.
You will need to remove the finrot medication..
Water change and run some new black carbon.
Once medication is removed raise temp to 30, and increase aeration..
Then add whitespot medication.

It's turning into a nightmare so I do  no how you feel

This is what whitespot looks like.

Hi thanks for the info I have just been sent a photo of how he is now and have attached this to help identity whether it is white spot or not .

I have a big horse feed bucket that is clean would you recommend moving him into that to hospitalise him ? It is bigger than his current tank.

Thanks

If you mean them spots on the body there to big for whitespot.
Looks ,more like round circles of columnaris to me.
How many gallons is the horse bucket. I remember feeding my pony in plastic buckets.

I have just bought a 60L Hagen Elite fish tank and a Eheim Eco Pro 130 external filter, I am picking it up tomorrow as this is the earliest the seller could arrange for.

I have also started using Tetra Medica Lifeguard tablets as the Interpet Anti Fungus and Fishrot  did not seem to be working as the cotton wool (Saprolegnia) was spreading so I'm hoping these tablets are effective. They require 1 tablet every 24 hours for 5 days.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear you bought a new tank.

To be honest the anti finrot and fungus medications is not that good.
Hope he pulls throw bless him.

Good Luck.

Hi, this is what the tank set up looks like now...

That's looks really nice. Well done. He will be a lot more happier in this tank than the other one.
How many gallons is the filter for. as gold fish need double filteration?

I had that pineapple ornament!! And that also looks like columnaris to me... that isn't the best news to be honest...

feed medicated food like Medigold or Romet-B, treat with Pottasium Permanganate (see description in the medicine section), injection of antibacterial medication if available. Melafix will also work well in aiding the infection.

Very clean water and maracyn 1-2, used together, was a very effective treatment for columnaris. within 3-4 days the telltale "threads" blowing in and out of my comets mouth had disappeared. meanwhile, his fins perked up and he started eating regularly again. salt dips at a solution of 1.5% for 5-10 minutes (or until the fish stops swimming, even after a nudge or two) really helps to clear up the heavy slime coat that is most likely prevalent. the dips can safely be used for up to three days at a time (before, during or after treatment). if the slimecoat still persists, let it rest for a few days and continue with another round of dips.

You can't get Maracyn one and two in the UK. Only if you order on line they take weeks to come.
It's illegal to buy them as well.
Don't think you can get Romet B either.
Pottasium Permanganate. Only use this medication if you know what you are doing as it's pretty lethal.

I agree it does look like columnaris to me aswell.
