Hi guys,

I've just purchased a T5 light unit from someone on eBay for a tank I'm setting up, it's a twin T5 22" 24W so obviously I'll need 2 tubes :fun:

I've looked in the fish places but they want anything from £15-£20 a piece

Can I buy some from this place, and would they be suitable to grow plants?

More this one though as it's daylight ...

Thanks in advance :good:

Tank size will be 2ft long, no fishies as of yet, still undecided :) why does that matter? also undecided on plants too but shouldn't have much problem with anything with that much light on a 2 footer

The 6500K bulb should be fine for growing plants. I would personally look for a bulb with a higher CRI rating but that one will give color rendering about as realistic as a cool white bulb so it may be OK to your eyes. I get a bit picky about the colors that my bulbs are able to show me. The plants won't care about that one bit though.

Thanks for the replies guys :)

Could you suggest a better bulb with a higher CRI rating oldman?

I wasn't sure whether you were wanting to keep Marine Fish with Corals or if you were into Tropical.. My thoughts are the lighting which has already been suggested by Hunter.. 6500K will be more than adequate for when you get home and settle in for the evening . I also like to think that my electric bill Isn't going to be sky high. Thats why I have got some good looking plastic plants mixed with a few live plants, when the live plants start to look a bit shabby I can afford to replace them Can I also say, well done on finding such a cheap Lighting Shop.

Well ... I ended up buying the same bulbs 6500K ... but from a different place that didn't charge £10 postage :grr:

BLT direct if anyone is interested :shifty:

I can't name a particular brand with a better CRI rating. I just look at the ratings when I search for a bulb on line and insist that almost any bulb I buy has a rating of 90 or higher. Each new bulb purchase becomes a bit of a challenge because a CRI of less than 90 is definitely the most common one that I find.
