Finally Got The Camera Working!

Finally got my camera working so be ready for some dodgy photography - i apologize in advance....

First my shrimp tank;#

Now my 120g - Excuse the water, its the tannins.... honestly! lol

Now I was sold 2 Jade eyes about a month ago, as you can see one is alot darker than the other and appears to now have "orange eyes" - is this a jade eye? they looked identical in the shop but i know young cichlids are easily mistaken.

Is that java fern you have buried in the substrate? its just they grow better on bogwood/slate/stone than being buried unless you have rhizomes/roots above the substrate.

Wow! That is a nice size tank Matt! Your second Jade Eyed is definately true... As for the first one, i don't know. It seems different for sure!

Its the first one i'm having trouble identifying...

Your Ellioti is certainly better looking (it's hard to pick and choose as it was the only one i've found at a shop for over 6 months!) my poor old fellas top fin was torn when i bought him and has never grown back he's still the boss, even pushes the big Severum around lol.

As for the plants I have no idea - I'll be honest, if i think it'll look good and can find a place for it, it'll go in the tank

Java fern and Anubias need the rhizome above the substrate otheriwse they will rot off Matt. My Ellioti is boss too, but he is the biggest fish i have. Get an Oscar in with him, see if he is boss then

The first Jade Eyed certainly has the same shape as one. maybe it is just the dominance showing. Did you check both for the 'eye spot' on their dorsal fin?

Yep the java fern is the ribbed ones like in your last pic,they all need lifting above the substrate

A job for tomorrow then , how would i get it growing on the bogwood? just place it next to it?

The darker one does chase the other quite a bit...

as for the eye spot... you're gonna have to help me on that. i feel im having a mini lesson on plants and fish tonight lol

Tie the fern to the bogwood using cotton or fishing line.

Now then... Have a look at the female on the right hand side and you will notice a spot of colour on her dorsal fin. This is the only known difference between male and female other than the obvious size difference. If the bigger one chases the smaller one then i doubt they will ever become a pair. How long have they been together? Could you remove the bigger one for a few days to try and let the smaller one settle a bit or don't you have that option?
