Finally Done My Fish Less Cycle

Maybe you should just plunge your hand in there and break it up. I actually have no idea of the best diet for corys, beyond them getting leftovers that hit the substrate and whatever sinking pellets people might provide...

~~waterdrop~~

Cories diets are not algae wafers like you might use for a pleco. Cories like nice meaty foods but are not much in the way of hunters. They end up mostly eating what gets away from other fish in the tank but need to be purpose fed. They do not eat waste and in some tanks have a hard time getting enough to eat. I make sure that I feed a bit faster than my other fish can eat so that some of the flakes and pellets that I feed end up on the bottom for the cories. They also very much enjoy the frozen blood worms and frozen brine shrimp that I feed.

right, thanks for that ile figure something out im sure. I went shopping last night, here is what i got.sorry i cant make it in list form on the mobile. . . 2x pink kissers. 3x green loach. 2x silver shark. 1x mountain shrimp. 1x herbert akel... 2x apisto cacatuoinus. And 1x pearl gourami. Along my 6 neons, 2 pandas and 2 angel fish they look good, , do you think any more or is that enough? I really dont know, i want a bright coloured fish in there but im not surfie i have stocked it up already.

Just a couple of thing to point out.

The silver sharks will eventually outgrow the tank, they grow in excess of 12" and should be kept in groups of 6+ in a minimum tank of about 400 litres

also the pink kissing gourami may outgrow the tank, they too can reach 12"

other than them it looks fine, keep an eye on your angels, if they don't pair up they could become aggressive.

The angels will eat your neons when the angels get bigger. Neons are a natural food for angels in the wild

also corys should be kept in groups of 6+

oh right! nice of the shop man to inform me off this, he said the sharks will grow only to suit size of the tank, should i get some more coreys? Are they the pandas? And does it matter if there a diff breed or do u have to keep 6 the same. I know that about the angel fish, thats nature tho i suppose. Do i have room for more fish or should i leave it at this . .

Yes Andy, the pandas are corys. There is no definate number that corys should be kept in. You can keep 2 but corys are much happier in larger groups therefore people suggest minimum of 4-6. When kept in a group you will notice the change in personalities. I have 8 Cory in my 33 gal tank but could go to more like 12-15 if I wanted. It's fine to mix the corys, they don't have to all be pandas.

Regarding the sharks, I'd take them back and tell the guy he doesn't have a clue what he is talking about! Keeping a fish in a tank that's to small will stunt it's growth, in effect he is right in saying it will only grow to the size of your tank but what he didn't tell you is that although the fishes body will stop growing, it's internal organs won't meaning the fish will grow deformed and have a much shortened life. Silver sharks kept in the right conditions should easily reach 15-20 years old.

NEVER trust any advice given to you by a fish store, there first priority is to get you to spend your money! Always research fish for yourself, ideally on this forum on the Internet and also never impulse buy fish.

I'm not having a go at you because you obviously weren't to know and we have all made a mistake in the past by trusting our lfs on one thing or another!

Andy

right, well, i think what i shall do is keep the sharks in there til they get a bit bigger then find them a new home, i will also get some coreys. Thanks andy, does any one know how near capacity i am at the min . .
