Final Stocking Suggestions

I am reaching the end of stocking my 35l Biube and would appreciate some help deciding what to get as my last batch of fish...

Tank specs:
35l tall cylinder
Running for 7 months
Fully cycled
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrites: Will check these later on today!
Nitrates:
pH:7.4
Temperature: 24.5C/ 76F

Fish: 6 cardinal tetra (had these for 6 weeks)
2 male swordtail platy (had these since the start)
4 Crystal Red shrimp (had these for 4 weeks)
Plants: Large Java fern, 2 large clumps of Cabomba, 3 moss balls, Java moss to come in next week

I am looking for a mid level community fish(es) which will get on well with this setup.

Any ideas welcome!

Personal opinion, I would maybe add one or two more cardinals and call it stocked already.

A trio of sparkling gourami might work nicely. But in a BiUbe your quite limited with stock options as its low surface area and in a small volume it is a limiting tank. And with the cardinals getting quite a large tetra maybe a bit much with anything else. Just an idea but you could swap the Cards for Green Neons which stay much smaller than Cardinals and even smaller than regular Neon, then the extra space could help with getting something like the gourami.

Good call on getting Sword tail platies rather than regular Swordtails though! Excellent choice

Thanks for the replies everyone, changing the Cardinals may make more space but I've become quite attached to them and they have settled in so well (just realisedd I got them 8 weeks ago not 6) that I will not be removing them. Getting some more cardinals is an idea but I was thinking more along the lines of a completely different fish entirely... Or maybe a snail of some sort (any ideas). Infact if anyone can think of any sort of thing that is compatible with this setup, whether it be a bottom feeder or an invertibrate or anything I would be pleased.

P.S I may be getting a larger tank too....

Apple snail?

I would hold off adding anymore fish until you know if you're getting a bigger tank or not - depending on what size you go for could make all the difference in what you could add next.

Where would you get snails from, I got my assasin snail from ebay but it was very unhealthy when i got it, does anyone know any good dealers. Also would an aquaruim be ok in a conservatory, i would have though temperature fluctuations may cause a problem but that is one of the only places I could fit a large one (I do mean LARGE)

Any good fish store should have them or be able to order you them. Do you have a maidenhead aquatics near you? My local one always has them, along with other kinds of snail. I got my assassin snail from an MA and it was fine.

As for the conservatory, does it get a lot of direct sunlight? Does it have blinds? Try putting a thermometer in the room and see how much it fluctuates during the day (pick a sunny day).

It not the warmth I was worrying about but the cold as it is shaded by a large Oak tree, in the winter the floor is so cold that you have to wear shoes in there.

Strangely they are not stocked in Swallow Aquatics even though it is the largest store in the area, I have never been to a Maidenhead aquatics and will have to check if there are any near Billericay.

My tanks are in a fairly sunless room, certainly never warm - if you have a decent tank heater I don't see a huge problem.

Any lfs should be able to order you a snail if need be
