Fin Nipping

helloooooo. got some serious fin nipping going on. my tank consists off a number of fish but the ones i susspect are the siamese fighter (male) and 13 guppies- 5 male - 8 male. nearly half my guppies have nipped fins.even the female. i dont know whos doing it or why. 3 males have got nasty bits but 2 un bitten which leads me to believe that it could be these or my unbitten siamese fighter. who would u suspect because now my fish r looking tacky the siamese fighter is so divy so didnt think it would be him. whats your thoughts?

I've heard that the fighters can be quite evil, everyone I know that has had one has had to get rid of theres due to this problem, but i'm new to this too so not totally sure.

thanks buddy. yh i just wanna get it sorted coz dont want my fish being stressed out. the siamese is a lovelly fish thou.

Stocking Fighters and Guppies are a no no.

Fighters tend to think guppies are other fighters, so they fight! hence the fin nipping.

I'd suggest moving the fighter to his own tank.

Update: Ive got a guppy who i think is on its last legs... its hiding down the side of plants out the way and its leaning to one side. its tail is mullered and seems to keep on swimming to stay afloat. hes not floating level either its got his nose up in the air at a 45o angle.. ive put him in a seperate tank but dont know weather to put it out of his missery. Any thoughts on what i can do. be sad to see him gone as hes the mrs fish and one of the first we got haha

Clove oil. Freezer. Or even brute force on the head. Some advocate cutting the spinal cord (just behind the head).

If you think it's before fixing then obviously kinder to put it out of its misery.
