Filtration

Also Does anyone know about the All Pond Solutions external filters? Why are there 200lph filters £100 cheaper than everyone elses?

because they aren't as 'good' as they say they are. There's a thread on here somewhere were several people have tested them. They seem to have about 50% less flow than actually advertised.

this is my filter system wier with sump which will be planted, my lfs made this for me..

i can really give any advice only the idea as im new to this but my tank is same apart from being 7ft..

Here in the US they sell 4 foot fluorescent light tubes all the time. Why not look at a home improvement store, rather than a fish store? If there is already a glass lid, you could just suspend the lights over the top fairly easily and then you wouldn't have to worry about the length.

8 feet long tank!!! I can only imagine what that must be like!

If I can give you a piece of advice, before filling it up for the first time, I would bring an inspector into your home and check out the structure underneath where you are going to be placing this leviathan tank. 1100 liters is quite a lot of weight. (That's well over a ton in water ALONE!) Fortunately, it will be spread out over 8 feet of length, but I think it is better safe than sorry.
With the weight of the tank, stand, rock, sand, water, etc I estimate it to be around the 1.5 ton mark.
i'm not to worried about the floor as its 6 inch thick stone floor straight onto the compressed earth under, its been there since 1800, has never moved and even the huge aga has never cracked it. Really good advice for a modern built house though that I bet lots of people don't think of.
I'll get some tank pics up for everyone soon its empty at the moment but still impressive to stand by.

Better steer clear of those then

Love the look of you tank.
Thanks for the pics showing your sump setup I didn't think of seeing if a good lfs could make me one.

tbh, if you're not planning on planting the tank much, you won't really need lights. Just go with whatever lights you can find that you like the look of.

So a T5 unit that i've seen whick is 5ft long with 39w bulbs in it would do the job then?

As long as you've considered the weight. :good:

Interesting sounding house, as well. My house was built in 1950, timber construction. That tank would crash through my floor in a heartbeat. A friend of mine just bought a house to make a 1st floor bedroom into a "fish room". He had the inspector check for strength to hold up 4 tons. It does and he's now got his marine tanks filling up the room. Very cool!

That's a lot of weight above your head. lol.

The LPH of an FX5 is more around 2300lph... and is very capable of achieving those figures. The TetraTEC ex2400 is NOISY NOISY NOISY!! I would go with 2 FX5's personally. Are you having big fish or little fish?

Nah, the bedroom is on the first floor (resting on a slab of concrete). It used to be a garage, but was later insulated and converted into a living space. Strong enough to park a car, strong enough to hold some tanks, especially since the weight is more evenly distributed with a tank than with a car (4 pressure points).

No cardboard box. hahahahahaha.

Probably the biggest will be a JD or a red tiger oscar depending on my final choices with the tank.

stocking is what i'm stuck with as there are so many things I like all will fit. Trying to research a new world cichlid tank that will get along together.

What would you put in it 8ft x 2.5ft x 2ft, 1133 litres

A Red Tiger Oscar, a group of Geophagus Altifrons, Daemons or Tapajos Orange Heads. Then a nice Royal Panaque. I would also include some Thorichthys, maybe Ellioti or Aureus.

Wills would be the best person to speak to, he is probably the best New World stockist on this forum. lol.

I really like the Ellioti to, I will research the others. Thanks.
