Hi I've been a very lucky boy and managed to acquire a 1100 litre 8ft x 2.5ft x 2ft.

I've got a carpenter mate coming to build a stand that can take the weight and am starting to wonder about filtration for it so I can keep new world cichlids.

Would a tetratec ex2400 do with a ex700 or ex1200 to help it out?

or would I be better with something designed for a small pond?

Thanks in advance.

a couple of FX5's is more likely for that behemoth!

I look forward to photos.....

What's the FX5 like?

Reason I looked at the tetratec EX2400 was the 2400lph flow rate compared with the FX5 having a 1500lph and a EX700 or EX1200 to help it out and I have a ex1200 on another tank and am really pleased. That said if the FX5 was better I wouldn't be against switching.

It blows my mind when I think of all the possible fish combinations you could put in that lake!
I'm struggling with stocking I'm pretty sure i'm going down the new world cichlid direction but am open to suggestions.
What would you put in it?

Also i'm only ever bought ready to go aquarium with lighting everything included. What do I do for lighting watts needed etc? Its got heavy sliding glass lids do I need a hood?

#33###, i bet that was a bit of a mission to get it from Chali. How many to lift it? :)

For filtration you really need to look at a minimum of 4x water volume per hour (more if planted, but doubt you'll be planting this monster?). Therefore calculate the water volume then find filtration rated at 4x or higher.

Doubt there will be many live plants in there.
So I need a turn over of 4400 litres as its an 1100 litre tank?
Any Idea of how many watts of lighting i'd need in there?
with an 8ft tank do you need 8ft of light bar or is 5ft ok as 5ft is the biggest i can find at the moment?

Also Does anyone know about the All Pond Solutions external filters? Why are there 2000lph filters £100 cheaper than everyone elses?

Here in the US they sell 4 foot fluorescent light tubes all the time. Why not look at a home improvement store, rather than a fish store? If there is already a glass lid, you could just suspend the lights over the top fairly easily and then you wouldn't have to worry about the length.

8 feet long tank!!! I can only imagine what that must be like!

If I can give you a piece of advice, before filling it up for the first time, I would bring an inspector into your home and check out the structure underneath where you are going to be placing this leviathan tank. 1100 liters is quite a lot of weight. (That's well over a ton in water ALONE!) Fortunately, it will be spread out over 8 feet of length, but I think it is better safe than sorry.
