Hi everyone :) iv just persuaded a friend of mine to get a tank. So far so good, but he is now looking for a filter. The tank is a rio 300 (4 foot, 350 litre). I have an fx5 on my rio 400 but he doesn't want to spend that sort of money. He wants to buy new and is looking at a fluval 406 or a tetratec 1200. I also have a 406 which I find great but can't comment on the tetratec as iv never had 1.

Could someone please tell me which one would be the better one to go for. We have noticed the tetratec is cheaper at £99 new and for up to 500 litre tanks with 1200 litre turn over per hour (without media i beleive) Compared to the 406 which is only rated for tanks of up to 400 litres and cheapest we found is £128 new.

He is also aware that he needs to do a fish less cycle before he can add fish and he has also bought a api master test kit. I have also pointed out the beginners section on here for him to have a read through. He didn't realise it would be such a wait til he could add the fish :)

Thanks

Hi there, I've only just got my tetra 1200 so can't really comment but I'm pretty sure you can get it for around £10 cheaper, if it helps! I can tell you that it is totally silent, I have been amazed. My internal Interpet PF1 that's in my 48L is deafening in comparison!

I've just looked and I got mine from Aquatics Warehouse UK for £89, free shipping and it arrived either the next day or the day after I cant remember.

TT 1200 is 960LPH with media in and is £86 i only knoe this as i have 4 of them :good: ....minnnt should chime in any sec

Would 1 of them be ok for a 350 litre tank? He is thinking of stocking a firemouth, a green terror, a plec (bristlenose) and I think he mentioned Dempsey. Will be have sand substrate. No live plants that I'm aware of. Slate for hideouts/divide territory and iv given him some bogwood

Thanks, il have a look. Better than £99 lol
I also have an internal interpet pf4 which is loud... And huge lol

Iv got an all pond solution ef2000. Used to use it on my 260 litre. I cant cant find any faults with it. Its not up there with the big names buts its definately worth the price :) He is set on a fluval or tetratec though lol

What about the aquamatic range? They are exclusive to maidenhead aquatics. The efx1500 is £149 or they do a efx1500u (with uv light) for £179...

Seems steep to me as they are only rated for up to 450 litres??

My tetra is running the rio 350 and has been for a year :good:

My point that i keep trying to make is why go APS for £70 when for £86 you have a quiter better built bit kit (yes i have both) If you can get the APS with a 15% discount like they did last xmas then i would have rethink, but my fish are worth the £16 every time IMO

Aquis 1200 from Aqua One; gives max. flow rate 1200LPH and an operational media-in flow rate of 750LPH...it is very quiet and I paid £90 - well happy!

960 with media seems pretty good. And yes al I bought my aps when they had the 15% off. I get what your saying, thinking about it now out of the 2 if I was looking for a filter I definitely pay the extra and get the 1200. Seems like the best choice out of the ones my friends been looking at so il let him know and he can get it and sort it out over the weekend and then.... Let the cycling begin. Fun times lol

One of each, then he gets the best of both worlds. :D

Tetratec 1200's are awesome. Ultimately he is gonna need 2 though... That's some big bio load for 1 filter to deal with.

Be rude not to show the team tetra flagship pic :p

He maybe better just getting an fx5 if he only wants 1 filter.

Only other thing to do would be to keep the internal aswell.
