Hi All,

I have run out of Filter Wool so began looking on ebay, it looks like you can get a roll of the stuff designed for pond box filters really cheap

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/pond-aquarium-filter...id=p3286.c0.m14

I imagine it is safe to use in a tropical setup but wanted to double check ? Im only going to cut squares to size to fit my external :) - cheaper than buying it loose by the box at my lfs!

Cheers,

Craig

yup, good way to save a few quid that, can usually pick up half a tonne of pond filter floss for about £2 :D

pond dechlor is another good one if you've a fairly large tank, it's much stronger so you only need like 1/2ml to treat a decent sized tank, lasts longer thus saving money..... only time it's a bit pants is when you've a small tank and you're meant to try and dose 0.000005ml or something ludicrous like that

I had not thought of pond dechlor! - I have a 180litre, is it possible to measure it for that?

I like anything that saves me money! :)

yeah should be, just look at the measurements on the bottle, you'll always get x ml for x litres of water so you can always work it out. it's just because ponds are on a much bigger scale each ml of dechlor treats a larger volume of water.

only thing i'd advise not to use of the pond stuff is medicines, because they need much more accuracy in the quantities, if you overdose on dechlor it won't matter, overdosing on meds can kill your fish, so it's worth paying out for the ones designed for aquariums there.
