why don't u got to their web site and c if u can get the manual (if you haven't got it already) and READ IT it helps and there's a lot less fuss!

i find ur comment insulting to say the least, if you would have taken the time and READ MY COMMENT PROPERLY u would have seen iv read the manual, also u would have seen its my first time with an external.

mike, these are addons... iv already got one of the suction bars (?) on my intake pipe :/

dunno what to say about all this extra stuff :(

cheese, yeah i was informed wrong on this item (through ebay) i was told that it would cover my tank and more.... then when id already brought it someone else gave me information on it, but dont forget as iv already mentioned iv got an internal filter running in there untill my benificial bacteria has set itself up in the external one :) and if needs be then it will stay in there untill i can get another fluval :)

most of the extra pieces are used for alternate configurations of the filter. spraybar/sump ect ect

So you have two of all the "spare" parts do you? The hockey stick shaped one is the intake pipe which should be postioned with the long side in the tank and the tube with holes in is a spray bar which is connected to the outflow pipe and postioned at the waters surface so that it spreads the returned water over a greatet area so you get more surface aggitation and so faster gas exchange and the little black plug/cap thing goes in the end of the spray bar. The ( shaped bits of plastic are to run hoses around corners without kinking the hose.

oh sorry i didn't mean to offend but i did answer is at 11:30 and after a 12 hrs shift so if u were me u would miss bits out. anyway when i got my first external i read the instructions and asembled it no problems. i'd also get a bigger filter as the manufacturer can get the calculations for the filter capacity wrong as in they used a computer simulation of what they thought was an optimum tank but we tend to over stock the tanks we have.

i'm sorry that i'm not much help but i use the rena filters, they look better and are easier to use.
