Just having bought a big external I want to make sure Im not going to damage it by having it too close to the same water level of the tank ( if that makes sense )

Attached is piccy of the filter and said tank, including loads of tat underneath it which needs a good tidy!!

Any thoughts on whether this is suitable?

I say looks fine because your pump head is below your normal 50% and above water line. Its possible it would be slow to prime if you tried to prime it while water was 90% out of tank but can't imagine you'd do that as you would probably add water to a higher level or full before re-starting the pump. Long water lines can have more effect because of surface area drag in the pipes, but yours will be fine with a big pump like that I would think.

Just my 2cents: ~~waterdrop~~

im not really sure about your question but is that a marineland c-360? if so after a while do you think you can pm me and let me know how it works for you as im planning on investing in one at some point.

Thanks for the replies thus far.

Its a tetratec ex1200. Bit of a beast, turns my tank into a whirpoll if Im not careful.

ank is cycling at the mo hence the lack of anything in it.

i have the exact same filter as the same location as its too big to go in the cabinet... my pipes dont reach all the way to the other side of the tank tho, do yours?? tho its the spray bar that is about 4 inches short od being against the other side of the tank,.. i have no idea if this is a problem tho..
here it is during a water change

Yeah, mine are able to reach and the spray bar is about midway accross the tank.

It was more an issue of gravity and the pump motor knackering due to it being almost the same level and not underneath the tank.

I was a bit drunk when I wrote all that last night.
