Hey folks, the filter that came with my new tank is absolutely pants. I have only had this new tank for about a month.
I came back from getting shopping and it had stopped again-who knows how long it had been like that and the water is so cloudy again.
It stops and starts and makes a chugging noise with the sand even though the bottom parts covered with tights. One time it had stopped during the night, I didn't have an airstone at the time and the fish were gasping at the top of the tank.
It doesn't matter if the filters set to high or low-it makes no difference. I have my old filter running in the same tank but it only does upto 40 litres (I have 64) and that's an aqua one filter and it's been brilliant. I am wanting to change this new filter for the fluval u2 which does upto 100 litres I think it is.
My main question is-do I just take this stupid filter out and replace with the fluval one? The old filter which is brown is running in there anyway.
I added the bottled bacteria to the new filter for the first week it was running then left it, it's also brown.
The fluval hasn't got space for me to put the sponge from the old filter into it has it? I think it's 3 skinny pads. What should I do? Any help will be appreciated.
Thankyou

if its a new tank then i'd be onto the shop where you bought it. they will surely replace the filter or give you the manafacturers number ?

Thanks for the reply.
I just don't want to get the same and it happens again. I honestly have had enough of this filter and want a more powerful one. I have fancied the fluval for a while-wanted it for my old tank. I want to buy it so much but need to know if it just goes straight in or if I need to keep the other aqua one filter running with it too.

i would run them together for a while and put some of your old filter media in the new filter

Thanks. What do you mean? Put my old sponge into the new filter? I don't think it has space. I've seen the replacement pads and they are skinny on the fluval. The aqua one is a rectangle chunky sponge. How would that work? cut some?

you can cut a piece off upto 30% of the pad size or if you've been using filter floss put that in. its so your good filter bacteria transfers to your new filter.

I'm just a bit confused where this sponge is going to go. The pics of the u2 show when you flip the top open, there's 3 filter sponges next to each other with handles you can just pull them out-there must be a gap of about 1cm at the top do I just squeeze the piece of sponge into there? Sorry i'm being thick.

Ah ok. I will order one and give it a go! Thanks very much for your help :)

The biomedia case is only half full. You could cut up some old media and put it in there. That's what I did!

take out ALL the new media from the new filter (leaving in the pumice stone things) cut your Aqua sponge in HALF lenghways and put half in one cardridge and half in the other..DO NOT USE THE CARBON (black) one either.

I have a Fluval U2 x
