Filter Gives Out Bubbles Some Times And Not Others?

For the first two weeks i had my filter set up it gave out bubbles, then the third week it didn't then yesterday it gave out more bubbles, stopped this morning and is now bubbling again at the minute. Is this normal or is there a problem with the filter? Thanks.

totally normal. every now and then i give my external filter a wiggle and it releases any trapped air.

remember the filter produces air with the bacteria and there is air in the water. all totally normal

Could be one of the intake connections is loose, and is sucking in air.
you would hear that bubbling in the filter though.

INternal or external filter?

Some internal filters have a hole on the outlet that allows bubbles to be made in the water stream. They use a phonomenon called the Venturi effect (try googling it). What happens is the water passing out the hose causes a vacuum in the hole above the outlet - sucking air in and passing it through as bubbles - explained that badly I know. If your filter is designed to make use of the venturi effect then there will be a short length of tubing at the top of the water outlet that allows air to pass into the outlet. there is usually an adjustable rubber bung in these holes that can be pushed in or pulled out to allow the correct amount of air to pass through to make the amount of bubbles required.
