Obviously as messy fish oscars require a good filter. I currently have an Aqua CF1000 external on my Aqua One Evo 190L and I will have to have two filters for my 400L when I get it, I suppose. So, can anyone recommend a really good filter for me?

I use two Eheim 2217 on my 5ft tank. But as others have said, Fluval FX5 would be ok or a single Eheim 2080.

Thanks, gosh those filters are expensive! Got some thinking to do I reckon!

2x tetratec ex1200 would work well and you can usually pick them up fairly cheaply 2nd hand.

bigger is better:) i've got a fluval fx5 and the eheim 2078e on mine which isnt too much bigger than your tank. Having two filter's also gives you some more combinations for the media as well as the flow of the water.

if you was going to choose 1 id go for the fx5, have a look on ebay £130 will get you a brand new one delivered to your door, i have the fx5 and eheim pro3 2080's but the eheims are at least double the price of the fx5 new so if your on a budget then go for an fx5, off ebay though as they are still expensive in most online shops!

Thanks for everyone's help, the Fluval seems the way forward.

How many litres of water per hour does a filter need to filter for an oscar tank ideally?

agreed i LOVE my fluval fx5,its da bomb

you can find them secondhand but i usually see them marked around 80-90 where as got mine for 120pounds all in off ebay like dave said del to the door :good:

Fx5 for mech
Wet/dry sump for the bio-load.

Remember though, whatever filters you go with, you will still need to clean them regularly and keep up with your weekly WC.
As much as I really don't like these "fish", its always good to see someone ask about proper filtration for them. Good to know that there are those out there who understand how messy they are, and are willing to do what it takes to properly care for them.
Good job!

Thank you. I do around a 30% WC each week at the moment, and I will continue to do that even with a more powerful filter :D

Thanks, I'm looking at a 400L tank as it will be for my oscar, GT, some silver dollars and maybe a senegal birchir...
