Filter Broken I Think Help

hi i have a new tank its a tropiquarium 88

thats for light controls

anyway my question is when i turn the filter on it makes that sound where as if its not submerged in water u no that noise od that its dry but its submerged ok its my mates old tank across the road and i got it for free today so im not sure it he ran it dry he was saying somthign about the prapeller gone init but im not sure anyone know wats up with it. thanks alex

Does it appear to be working? I've never seen a filter like that before. Do you see any water currents made by it? If you can, it should be okay. If not, consider getting a new filter. :\

I think your friend might have said "impeller." That's the little part in the filter that spins around. If so, it will come out and can probably be replaced for just a few dollars. You'll want to clean it every now and then too, once you have the tank going.

It would be best if you don't run it until you replace it so you don't risk ruining the motor.

I'll move your thread to Hardware. Perhaps someone who posts there will have more information about the specific kind of tank you have.

That is a Biolife filter. For spare impellors, look here

But first ensure you give the filter a good clean - sometimes that's all it requires. Give the mechanical bits a good wash under a hot showerhead. Especially if there was old gunk around the impellor that dried out when it's been sitting empty and dry.

Hi everyone, a newbie here!

Was reading the above thread, which describes and fixes the exact same problem that I have....BUT......on removing the Biolife 55 I can't seem to get the pump itself out of the filter housing?

The heater and filter elements came out easily, is there some particular nack to removing the pump motor? How is it fixed in?
