Filter Bacteria

Hi
it might sound like a silly question but will a sizeable change in ph affect the filter bacteria in an external filter ?? I'm moving my frontosa group into a 7x2x2 and moving some discus into the tank the fronts were in. It would be a lot simpler to leave the filters where they are, but would the change from alkaline water to acidic water affect the bacteria in the existing filters ?

Welcome to the forum Chammy.
A filter running on fresh water will have the same type of bacteria in it whether it has acidic water or alkaline water. The bacteria do grow better in a higher pH environment than in a low pH one so do not expect things to be easily changed over. I would take the change slowly to give the bacteria a chance to adapt to it. If you already have both kinds of fish, the fish themselves might not like being in water that was changing slowly to suit the bacteria though.
