Filter Bacteria Dead ?

Hey guys and girls.
My 35gal tank suffered a catastrophe a couple of weeks ago that killed all my fish at once two days after a water change i did nothing different in my water change same water source same water conditioner same bucket even but they all died.
The only thing i could think of that could of caused it was a new fragrance thing downstairs that i have to pass but that is it.
I cleaned the tank top to bottom but left enough water for my filter to keep working and bacteria to live i even removed the old plants and features the fish played with lol.
But after nearly two weeks my tests show incredibly high ammonia PH is normal as are nitrates and nitrites i have changed the water i have cleaned my filter (external fluval 205) using tank water but still it keeps showing it.
So i was wondering whatever killed my fish could it be possible it killed the bacteria in my filter which means they could be giving off the ammonia ??

No mate all my tanks are snail free why do you say snails ?

I was following the frame of mind that if you had pest snails you added copper to the tank somehow possibly your water supplier changed your water. The copper will kill the snails causing a sky rocket of ammonia 2-3 days later.

So you have nothing alive in there to produce ammonia, yet it's going up?
(Without an ammonia source, the bacteria would die anyway) With high ammonia, you'd expect the pH to be higher too. What kit are you using?

Nothing even after water changes even large water changes the ammonia is still high

I have the full API test it reads fine with my 55gal tropical tank just messing me round with this tank.

You haven't missed a fish have you when cleaning it out?

There was only two goldfish and a sailfin plec in there and found all when they died

Yes and it is fine it is the same water i put in my tropical tank and that has no problems.
