Filter And Limescale Questions

Hiya

two questions:

1- ive just noticed some limescale at the back of the tank- i know you can use a vinegar and water solution to get rid of this- but my question is how? Do i do a total tank strip down or can i just empty some water to lower the water line and use a cloth while the fish are still in the tank?

2- Ive just brought a filter which doesnt disturb the water surface- ive noticed that there is an 'oil' type layer at the top of the suraface, but it is NOT oil, its purley from where the surface is not being broken- it wasnt there before when I used to have an air supply with my old filter- is there anything i can do to disturb the surface? or whatelse can you recommend?

IMO, to remove it strip down the tank, this way you know for definate that no vinegar has gone into the water that could harm the fish.

The filter should have some water coming out, the oil on the surface of the water is nothing to be alarmed about and most likely oil form the fish food, to remove, just aggitate the waterline or place a tissue paper on the water line, this will soak up the oil. Another simple way is a water change, but as i said, harmless to fish.
